It's 10 miles south of campus.

Got some nightclubs and boutique vintage fashion shops, but if you aren't going to be clubbing or shopping every day it's just some student housing very similar to Earlsdon. North Leam is the nicer area but the housing there is more expensive, and in the mornings the bus is usually packed full of people who boarded at South Leam. South Leam has cheaper housing but its a pretty rough area.

A bus pass is £252 for three terms (or £287 if you want to use it during the holidays), but the last bus is at 11.30 (or I think the number 12 has a late service but that's only until 1am and might not be included on your bus pass if you've bought a pass that doesn't include the National Express buses)

So if you want to get home after 1am, you need to get a taxi, which is about £16-£20 from campus to Leamington's high street. (obv. split between whoever is in the taxi with you)

Tried two times last term to get into Smack after they reopened the bottom floor. Failed on both counts :frown:

Why? Were you wearing trainers? Or is it like in my neck of the woods where they won't let immigrants (ethnic minorities, etc.) in?

The queues are massive when I went in term 3 :colonhash:

Seriously. You need to arrive at like 9.45 to have any chance of getting in at a reasonable time. They open at 10.30. Week 9 in term 3 I got in the queue at 5 past 10 and waited for 90 minutes, with still another hour or so left still to wait. There have been very few nights in Leam (where Smack was targeted as the final destination) that went well for me in the first year - often they are a waste of money due to the taxi back to campus and the expensive bars. Living in Leam in your later years is very useful for Leam nightlife.

Tip: Get queue jump. Plan ahead :yy:

I've still not been to Smack yet, but that looks so awesome...might have to schedule in a trip back from my year abroad to coincide with a Smack night out.

Hi,

i'm a new PG student

How is it to live in leamington spa ?

it seems to be a bit far away,
how do you get back home after a night out on campus ?

i've got an offer to live there from the uni but i've got the feeling that it would hinder socialising ...

I'm also a new PG student and applied for on-campus accommodation.

How and when did you get an answer from the accommodation office regarding your place?

I am also a PG student.
I got the answerer from the accommodation office last friday, but I did not get a room on-campus...
wish you luck!

When did you apply for accommodation?
Did the office gave you any reason why you didn't have a place on campus?

I applied long ago.
It is because there are more requests and places available.
So, there is not place for everybody...

Smacks good :yep: im still pissed off that I never managed to go to EVE or D&P in the end...on paper they don't really seem like my kinda nights out (music wise) but everyone always said such amazing things...

I've applied mid-july for accommodation...so logically, if you applied before me and got rejected, i won't either get a place on campus:mad:
such a shame!

I have to say I enjoyed laughing at arrogant drunk fresher hordes on the bus back from uni
"we're going to smack yeeeah!"

"errrr. no. You're not. I am going to Smack because my friends got me a queue jump an hour ago...you will not get in before 1 if at all. LOL!"
To Alexjba,

Living in leamington depends on how many hours a day your course is, by the end of my course I did around 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and the 30/40min bus journey to and from leam just made my days even longer. Most postgrads live either on campus or in canley/earlson, as this is much closer to uni.

The U1 bus runs to leamington until 12midnight (could even be 1am) every night and even later on fridays and saturdays.

If you live in campus youre sort of stuck with the union unless you get buses everywhere (or sleep on other peoples floors)

hope this helps

Alternatively you can take the unheard of step of paying someone to drive you and some friends the short journey between campus and Leam?

aka a taxi :h:
