Having difficulties obtaining old results

I sat my a levels in 2001-we were the last year to sit them before the AS/A2 system started up, and never received my certificates. I've seen been chasing these certificates up due to starting uni in September and received a letter from edexcel telling me they can't continue the application for the statement of results my AS grade was never cashed in. However, when trying to get a letter of my grades from my old high school, they told me that they didn't have records going back that far.
