Anybody staying in Cayley?

Hey all!

i'm starting at Loughborough in a few weeks and am staying in Cayley. is anyone else in this hall, or know anything about it, cos apart from all the boring details ie. rooms etc i can't find out much about the social side of the hall!? i'm going to study management sciences, anyone else?

i'm in rutherford apparently we will spend the whole year being rivals to eachother... soo... my halls better than your hall... and all that...

Aha! My brother happens to stay at Cayley and, low and behold, he does Management Sciences. He absolutely loves it, and has a blast (to answer the social question) and i'm sure Steeley will back this up, when/if he regains consciousness after Malia.

Do you know roughly how the committee system is set up, because they organise a number of social events, so you might wanna know about that, but i won't bore you with it if you already know.

And yes, Kelamia, you should get used to some friendly banter, and you'll soon the learn the words to the anti-cayley (and likewise for Jav with anti-Rutherford chants) songs, don't worry about it.

nope, got no idea how anything works really, am completely in the dark! do you have any idea how many hours of lectures a week your brother has, even roughly?
one of my friends is in rutherford so does that mean we are now rivals?! are you coming to loughborough this year?

I'm not nope, i'm afraid they don't do my desired course, but if i could, i would seriously consider it. My brother loves it, and it seems nice whenever i've gone up there. Be happy of your choice!

Im not sure how many hours of lectures he has, but i dont think it's more than a few hours a day, maybe 4. How many he actually goes to is another matter entirely, but it's certianly not an engineering style 9-5 lectures thing. Of course, the rade off being that they expect you to read a lot of amterial outside of the lecture hall. Again, my brother has done very little of this.

Don't worry about the rivalry, it's only a laugh. You won't have any problem staying mates with your friend in Rutherford, especially as the halls are (geographically) right next to each other. They share the same shops, etc.

The comitee works like this: It's kind of like a form of government, in that you have representatives from your halls covering all elements of uni life - for example, my brother is currently one of the 4 (two girls, two guys) Sport commitee members - he has to help organise the inter-halls sport meets, making sure Cayley have a full team sorted etc. They are commitee members for the treasury too - any problems you have there, you should be able to find your halls commitee person to give you a hand. Similary, they get to go to Freshers week to make sure everyone gets together and talks and socialises etc. They'll go round all the rooms, rounding up the Freshers and taking out to the union etc to ~~organise the drinking games~~ make sure everyone's alright etc. They'll help you get into the social side.

As for the actual social side of the hall - my brother knows a number of guys on his course in halls who he's mates with, and he hangs out with them, but it's largely a coincidence they do the same course - it's more because they are Cayley. In other words, he tends to go out with people in his hall, as opposed to his course. Having said that, most of them are actually in a different block to him, i believe, but a lot of his mates are in the ones nextdoor. It's no big deal for him, cause he has the magical commitee door opening car to get into all the blocks, but if you do make friends with peopel in different blocks, make sure you hit them up on MSN before you pop round, so they can open the door for you. Saves you having to piss off the person on the ground floor next to the door when you shout at them to let you in!

Ive only been there a few times, and don't talk to my brother about his course much, but if you have any more questions i shall do my best to answer them! Any specifics and he'll be back from Greece in about a week, so i'll point him in this direction to answer them.

sounds like a good idea! what kinda room do you have? my friend wanted to do that course at Lboro but he missed out by 1 ums point!! he was so gutted!

Ive got a ensuite, im not sure why, for my 1st choice i put Cayley WHB, but anyway, im sure it will be fine.
- I'll just have to ~~drink less~~ find some beer money from elsewhere?

Anyway, i cant wait to start, 28th, only 8days to go!!
- Im so unready its untrue, but im sure i'll figure something out.

I went to get some boots today, becuase it says i'll need some, but there where non in my size, so there geting some from there other shop send over for tommorow.

I also dont yet have what PC im taking sorted yet, but again, i'll do somthing!
- Its gonna be so great to start, some of my friends are at there uni already.

HELLO FOLKS!!

Just got back from a week in malia with the cayley boys!

My names steely and i'll be part of ure fresher helper squad this year!
basically the people looking after you will be your committee and freshers sqaud. Your block will be assigned 1 block rep (committee) and 1 fresher helper (sumone who was on committee or has had past committee experience).

Just to let you know we have a massive lineup of events for you...and its too big to mention here, plus it will be more of a surprise :p:

. But there will be some theme nights no doubt, but we will tell you all in advance so u can get costumes in town so dont worry.

One piece of advice i will give all of you is dont panice and dont be nervous...youre gonna be meeting people who are in exactly the same boat as you, so just meet people, be yourself and enjoy! this is gonna be one of the best yr of your life!

Im currently not at home but will be around evening tomorro so feel free to gimme a shout via email.
