Re: How ethnically diverse is Nottingham University?
It depends on what course/accommodation you are in - last year in raleigh park there were a lot more foreign people than there had been when I was in cripps the year before, and there are quite a lot of foreign people doing mechanical engineering, but imagine it'd be different for every course. But in general I think Nottingham is quite ethnically diverse, but then again I haven't attended or even really visited many other universities, so I don't have much to compare it to!

Re: How ethnically diverse is Nottingham University?
Yeah... that being said, they do have a lot of societies in relation to other cultures, if that helps at all?
And I'm one Asian chick.
I can totally teach you all about Asia... except I lack a lot of culture =/ Hm... well that happens when you're born and brought up out of Asia :P
Edit -- But if you did want something more diverse, I'd say somewhere closer to London. or Leicester/ Birmingham. Total asianfests in some places. (To be honest though, it wouldn't REALLY be diverse since there would be a huge population of asians/black in some of those and a huge lack of white....)Last edited by ourkizuna; 22-08-2010 at 01:31. -
Re: How ethnically diverse is Nottingham University?
Well, last year 26% of students were EU or International students. That's the only concrete statistic I really have.
Having said that, in the past year, I've seen more many wouldn't describe as "Tory Boy public school type" than I have those many would. This is in terms of both UP and Jubilee; can't really see for any other campuses.
It's also worth noting that the SU has over 230 societies, and a number of these are for people from particular races, religions, and backgrounds. There's bound to be people with the same background, and bound to be those with different. Maybe this is partly due to having a campus in China and another in Malaysia. You shouldn't have any problem at all getting invovled with other cultures

Re: How ethnically diverse is Nottingham University?I dunno mate.. I saw and spoke to loads of people who would fall into ethnic minority categories for example. It's bound to vary between courses, so I can't speak for politics, but computer science, business, mathematics, have quite a diverse class.(Original post by cunningstunt87)
There are three types of lie - Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics! -
Re: How ethnically diverse is Nottingham University?Politics is incredibly white, middle class kids to be honest. And my experience of Rutland was that there was very few people of an ethnic background, maybe 10% tops?(Original post by DarkWhite)

Re: How ethnically diverse is Nottingham University?Aye this is quite true for Rutland tbh, although that might be something to do with Insurance choice people being shoved in Rutland, with people who get in through Clearing, where international students are less likely to get in through. I know a load of first years thst lived off-campus just for the price tbh.(Original post by cunningstunt87)

Nottingham was my first choice uni and Rutland was my first choice accommodation! -
Re: How ethnically diverse is Nottingham University?Nope. Highly doubt it. Trends I'd say are spot on but figures way off. There are loads of non-white British students at Notts. Or are you saying there are only thirty or so black people at the university?(Original post by cunningstunt87)
Both pretty much spot on. -
Re: How ethnically diverse is Nottingham University? This is absolutely untrue.(Original post by DarkWhite)

We do not put all clearing or insurance students in one place. -
Re: How ethnically diverse is Nottingham University? In Rutland last year, a hall of 270 people, there were 4 black people as far as I was aware of. On my course, I don't remember there being any black people in any of my seminars, and I only know 2 black people doing politics.(Original post by Brotherhood)

I'm sure, law of averages, that isn't representative of the uni as a whole, I'm just giving my experience of it.
