PS - what's so special about Merchiston? I'd hardly rank it alongside Fettes and Gordonstoun in the leagues of Scottish independent schools...

Older than either, produces better exam results, more notable alumni, all-boys, ranked higher than schools like Repton and Rugby according to several rankings, #1 Scottish independent school in 2009 owns any Scottish school at Rugby etc. etc. also, I went there, so I'm a bit biased.
