I made one of my first friends by just talking to the guy next to me in a lecture, before you know it we ended up creating a friendship group. Depending on how your course works you will probably end up in groups where you will find people to socialise with.

In terms of nights out that is a bit difficult. You are going to have to find somebody that will let you crash at their place on the odd night. I was fortunate enough to do just that. If you can't or don't feel like doing this you can always organise to chill with friends in the gaps in your timetable.

Another thing that my friend group has done is created a chat group on whatsapp. Its a good way to keep organised and as a group.

If you are at a night event don't be afraid to just say hi. Odds are that they have had a little bit to drink and will be more sociable. If you feel a bit nervous have a drink... trust me it helps.

I know it is not so simple but confidence well get you far. Don't be afraid to just say hi. You have nothing to lose.

Tbh I do wish I moved to Coventry however I was unsure whether my loan would let me. I think I'll save some of the money this year and put it towards living comfortably in Coventry next year.

Any idea how the societies work? I applied and paid for them via the SU website, but have not received any communication from any of them

Not a clue. I haven't signed up for any because I'm commuting and don't feel like getting home for 9:00pm using public transport

I think your best bet is to take a trip to student services and see if they can do anything about it. The lack of communication could be just because it is only the first week.

Sorry I can't be of anymore help.

I'm commuting as well, I was actually thinking its pointless really anyway, all the events will be later on in the day, I don't fancy taking public transport back that late either.

By the way, what do you study?

I'm studying computer science. Tbh I half wish I risked it with finances and went to live in halls. I only made it to one of the fresher's night events. Making friends outside of your course is difficult and often not worth it because I can't really see them much because everyone wants to hang out in the evenings at the clubs etc...

Yh, kind of thinking maybe I should have lived in halls as well, if you can't attend societies/events or socialise in the evenings, then it fells like college rather than university.

I study economics.
