I have a question about how I'm gonna arrange my maths and further maths a-level
    I am on Edexcel.
    Maths: c1-4, s2, m2
    Further maths: fp1-3, s1, m1
    Is this combination allowed?
Also I've heard that it is not necessary to do fp3 for the a-level further maths and an applied unit can be done instead is this true?

    NO
    Can't have S2 in Maths without S1, can't have M2 in Maths without M1
You need 6 units for FM and you only list 5
You don't have to do FP1 FP2 and FP3 though you can if you wish - you must do FP1 and either FP2 or FP3 and can instead do another applications unit, fyi most people seem to prefer FP3 to FP2

Oh yeah the 6th module is d1, and yeah fp3 is mostly memory work, it's just time consuming

    Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I could find Maths A Level past papers as I intend to do some work over the summer and 'read ahead' for the coming year.

Hi, I've completed A-level maths and I'm looking to self-study A-level FM. I done C1-4, M1 and S1 and got good grades and good understanding of every module. I'm a Computer Science student so what can you recommend me doing?? I'm planning on studying FP1, FP2 and D1 at AS then FP3, S2 and M2 for A2. is that allowed, what do you think of this combination?

I think that the only compulsory module for AS FM is FP1 and any other modules with 1 in their title will also fall under the AS banner, so that means that FP2 could be interchanged with S2/M2 at the exam board's discretion to get you the best mark? Correct me if I'm wrong as I went through this process a couple of years ago so it's a little hazy.

That combination of modules certainly ticks all the boxes though as far as I'm aware. May be worth considering S3/M3 if you have a particular affinity for either of stats or mechanics, or even D2, although I don't know much about it - apparently it's not quite as simple as D1. I remember finding M3 much easier than M2 whilst hating S2 and preferring FP2 to the lot of them, but that's just me!

Is it possible to do FP3 without FP2, M3 without M2? I'd hate to be half way through FP3 and finding areas I don't completely grasp and having to look through FP2 books (even if I don't take it) I want to have an overall understanding of the modules I take, FP1 and FP3 w/o FP2 just seems like gaps in my knowledge or is this false? Not that I deliberately want to take easier-routes to FM because I want to complete it in 1 year.

You can't do M3 without taking M2. you need complete knowledge of M1-2, C1-4 for M3.

You can do FP3 without FP2. Both require knowledge of FP1 and C1-4. There are no topics in FP3 that require FP2 knowledge, though i will recommend doing both as these two are quite a lot more interesting modules compared to others.

Which version of internet explorer are you using?

If you are using IE9 then it won't run until you apply a few settings, watch this video on running it on IE9.

It should run fine on IE7, IE8, ...

It's usually isn't released until 9 months (I think) later unless you're a teacher and can get it 6 (?) months later

This was sent from TSR iPod app.

AS and A-Level maths and further maths resources thread
For further maths on ucas how would you put
M1 m2 and d1 down for jan resit
    And fp2 fp3 and d2 for a June sitting (d2 isn't a retake)
And fp1 I've done but not resitting so d2 is just a back up module
I'm asking because I'm not sure if I can put m1 m2 and d1 in an advanced subsidiary qualification as m2 is an a2 unit

    Hi,
you actually don't need the cd, you can view the solution bank online,
what you need to do is to install mozilla firefox, here's the link to install it: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
then, you need to click this link: http://www.sci2.co.uk/maths/S2/Solut...nt/sb/content/
then just click on the question number you want solutions for (i would advise you to open this link in a new tab, right click and click "open link in new tab")
the question should be displayed and at the bottom of the screen it should say "solution" click that and the solutions will appear,
    hope i helped.
