Thank you for your application to study medicine which we have received from UCAS, your application will now be processed. This process involves three stages, 1) shortlisting; 2) selective interview of shortlisted candidates; 3) making offers. Further details regarding these processes can be found in our Admissions Policy document, which is available on our web site at https://mbbs.ncl.ac.uk/admissions .
We make every effort to process all applications as soon as possible, but please bear in mind that last year, we received approximately 3,500 applications for 352 places. Interviews will be held between mid-November 2010 and early March 2011 and candidates will receive notification of their interview date, normally, at least two weeks in advance. If you are aware of any dates on which it would be impossible for you to attend for interview, please notify this Office immediately via email at medic.ugadmin@ncl.ac.uk
Every effort will be made to accommodate your campus preference, but your first choice cannot be guaranteed.
Offers are made as soon as practical and every candidate will be informed through the UCAS tracking system by the end of March. Should you be successful in gaining an offer of a place, we will invite you to attend one of our Open Days, full details of which will be sent nearer the time.
Following the establishment of the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), all medical students are required to undertake a CRB check. If you are an international applicant you will need to obtain a ‘letter of good conduct’ from your relevant government department. The Medical School reserves the right to discontinue your studies on the course upon receipt of an unsatisfactory Disclosure. Further details will be provided should you be successful in receiving an offer of a place.
The University wishes to be able to offer appropriate support and/or auxiliary aids to any visitors who have need of these arising from a disability or medical condition. We should be grateful if you would inform us, as far in advance as possible, if you have any such requirements. These may include, for example, support from a sign language interpreter or receiving information in an alternative format.
If you have any questions about the selection process, please do not hesitate to contact this Office. I regret, however, that it will not be possible for us to release information to you on the progress of your application until the selection processes are complete.
May I take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in Newcastle University Medical School and wish you luck with your application.
Yours sincerely
Mrs D Smith

Well at least it won't make a difference for 3/5 years because years 3 and 5 you'll be at your base unit and year 4 you'll be studying at Newcastle anyway
