I don't turn up to any lessons, do as little work as possible and I do about 1 hour revision for every exam.

    AS Average = 95%.

The only difference is, is that I don't go wasting my life away drinking and snorting coke like 90% of the rest of my school. I eat healthily and exercise regulary.

Doing well in Exams isn't all about revision!
So, if I start eating bananas and apples I'll do better?

No Biology is not a subject, it is just a doss and a joke. Psychology is a subject that retards who can't do anything else study.

English Lang is not a subject.

From my point of view, there are only 5 real degrees:

    Maths
    Chemistry
    Medicine
    Physics
    Engineering

Everyone else just doses around and does f all.
how is Biology a doss subject?:lolwut: Some of my friends who take it say it's one of the hardest subjects.
Some of the people who have the top jobs in the country have a degree that isn't science related, clearly all they do is doss around

I rewrite what I learnt in class, then I would keep on going through it until I know it off by heart, after which I would consolidate the learning by past papers and keep on doing them until I know what the exams will consist off and I know the answers for questions

When I'm learning the subject, I start going over the material before lessons have even started (i.e. Literally getting ahead of the game). A good way (I find) of learning it is re-writing the revision guide but in a condensed form and in your own words - that way, you have to process the information before writing it down. This not only means that when you come to it in class it's just revision, but also means that the weeks for the exam are a breeze! :P

That's how I've done it, and every exam I've done using that method I've got at least 96% in. Works for me :P

Good luck in whatever you're doing, you'll be fine! x

Go through the specification! This is so important, if you know everything in the spec then you're sorted because it won't ask you any other questions!

Also, PAST PAPERS! As they say, the best way to learn a game is to play it.

    Well aren't you just charming.

I personally don't feel that psychology is anywhere near as difficult bio, chem + physics, but I don't go around throwing my opinions in the faces of people who do like it. You're incredibly disrespectful and need to learn some social skills. If you don't respect others they won't respect you, regardless of your grades.

I heard that you can't concentrate for your-age-minus-three minutes, and for about 4 weeks EVERY lesson was made up of 10minutes of the teacher dictating, with no questions and we couldn't take notes (a killer for me) then 10 minutes doing something none related (we had to play musical statues -.-" ) then another 10 mins of the same power point but with words missign that we had to fill in, another 10mins of musical statues, then we were giving worksheets of the power point and we had to rewrite all the text.
    I'm only doing GCSE's but I'm getting all A* 's.
I have NEVER missed a day of high school since year7.
Every lesson I take colour co-ordinated notes - pink= most important blue- medium importance green - less imortant black - least
When it comes to the exams I print off every past paper and markscheme availble from the exam boards website.
I rewrite notes, draw up mind maps, read the textbooks, get my paretns to test me, I help my freinds out in their examms, I teach my little brother some of the topics and I do every exam and get my mum to mark them and go through the exam and the mark scheme with me (she's a strict marker.)

I understamd that everyone has different methods of revisoin because everyone is different, but it is normaly good to know what type of learner you are, I'm a visual learner, hence the colours that help.

After reading others tips, I shall invest in some post its, visit the libary more, and try to make revison fun.

Sabster is just bitter because they got rejected by London Met for Disney Studies.

Just because you don't study it, or don't like it, doesn't mean it isn't a subject. If it is taught at universities, I think we can be fairly sure it is a subject you idiot.

I'm not saying Psychology is anywhere near as hard as Biology, Chemistry and Physics and Maths, and I don't intend to claim that because I've seen what those students have to do and Psychology is so much easier - but that doesn't mean it's a useless subject, or just for retards - which, by the way, is a word that only tactless, uneducated idiots use in that context.

I'm doing English Language and Literature, would've been just Literature if my college offered it - although apparently English Literature isn't a subject either. I see you studied four languages at AS/A Level or whatever, none of those are subjects either.

As somebody who is doing A2 and got crappy grades at AS, here is what I do now, and having seen my January results there have been major improvements:

    1) Work smart instead of hard. Trust me you can get lots of work done in a short space of time rather than staring at a book all day thinking WTF?!

    2) Past papers - THIS IS ABSOLUTE KEY ESPECIALLY FOR SCIENCE AND MATHS SUBJECTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is no point of learning something if you can't apply it. A levels is all about applying

    3) If you really really want an A/A*, make sure you start revising early and KNOW YOUR STUFF INSIDE OUT. And I mean EVERYTHING on the specification.

The results: I re-took one of my Chemistry AS papers and turned that from D to an A
I re-took Economics and bumped up my UMS from 69/100 to 99/100

Trust me if I can do it so can you!!!!!!!!!!

At A-Level, languages are academically challenging and warrant their definition as a subject.

Some universities also offer 'David Beckham Studies' - is that a subject?????

And lol at you finding Biology/Maths/Physics hard; you must be a epic downer

I don't study them so I don't find them hard - I've seen what my friends study and it looks hard, as someone who doesn't study them. You may consider yourself clever but you're certainly lacking social skills, good luck with life :teehee:

And yes, by its nature, it is a subject because it is taught at a university. What is so hard to grasp?

I did half a year of French AS Level before finding it too boring and easy so I stopped also, English is a language - why isn't that a subject?

Don't procrastinate and manage your time effectively, do lots of past papers and get used to what wording and terms the mark schemes require, the chances are in the real exam questions based around those that you have already done will come up and you will hopefully have a clearer idea how to pick up the marks. You can do all the back ground reading in the world but if you don't put certain terminology into your answer you will not pick up the marks (quality not quantity)!

I have to emphasise the work smart not hard. Some people sit down for two hours reading through a book, not trying to remember anything and it doesn't work for the majority. My grades at AS were ABBc in A2 I got A*A*A.

Start around 4-5 weeks beforehand, keep steady and don't work too much or you'll burnout.

make notes, mindmaps , revision cards ,posters.

Do all the past papers available to you!

Mark them and look through mistakes and learn key areas again!

    Write notes on them.

    Ask teachers for help!

read and write down key points witihout looking at your notes.

Just learn ,understand and practice, practice!!!

Re: A and A* students... Share your revision tips
Just found this thread....finding it really interesting
I'm only doing GCSE'S , but luckily managed to achieve some A and A*: grades through early entry and mocks by the following methods which I personally found really helpful.
Start early: The longer you leave it, the more you have to do in those two weeks before the exam, meaning more to cram in. You will become stressed out with the workload, and not take anything in. Start early, revising a little everyday in bitesize chunks. Not only does this mean you remember it long term, you are less stressed in final revision because you know you are prepared.
Revise in your learning style: I think most people do this. I am a visual learner so I use spider diagrams, and highlight stuff, and sometimes just write stuff out. I always keep it simple, and never write anything which is unneccesary.
PAST PAPERS!!!! Sooooo good for revision!
Also, never be afraid to ask for extra help. Initially I was unsure, mainly because I thought my friends would say I was being a teachers pet, or taking school too seriously but after requesting additional tuition, I am finding work a lot easier.

And lastly, believe in yourself!! Even those without natural brains can achieve....if they want to. I am not particularly intelligent at all, but I work hard and have determination to do well. Good Luck xxx

(Sorry for the long post, but everyone has been nice enough to post their ideas, so I thought i should too . There are many techniques but I personally would like to stress my above points )

    Thanks!
