I'd kill myself if I had to do one more year.

You're doing linguistics too!?!?!?! Sweet!! Where are you applying too?!
Ah, only doing linguistics for Edinburgh, because it offers Scandinavian Studies and Linguistics! But also applying at UCL for hm. Either SS or like SS and History or just Viking studies. I would get to study Old Norse and Runes, aww yea :awesome:

ALSO EVERYONE not that it matters, but i picked up a copy of the princeton review french subject test book thing! So I think i'll devote an absurd amount of time to that over the next month in the hopes I can get over a 650 for Edinburgh.

    Hurrah!

I talked to my teacher again about my reference. "Oh, I'll put it in tonight." Still nothing. I'm severely losing faith in this woman and she was one of my favourite teachers!

So, for those of you that are in the 1900-2000 SAT range with 2-3 AP subjects of scores 4-5, what are your safety schools where you are sure you will get unconditional offers?

Safety- Edinburgh (and any Scottish uni, for that matter), as U.S. applicants have a greater advantage because they want our money.

Hoping for an unconditional from York or Nottingham.

    Reaching for UCL.

    You?

Wow! You must have amazing SAT/AP scores for Edinburgh to be your safety school. I am applying for IR which is really competitive there and it is the school I least think I will get an offer from because I only have a 1960 SAT (superscore-660/590/710 - math score is so low!) and APs of 5,4 / SAT II's of 700,680... and I am worried about getting no unconditional offers. If you have any schools you think I would definitely get an unconditional offer at that would be great!

Those are great stats! Better than mine, in fact. Truthfully, I have no doubt you'll likely get quite a few unconditional offers. Where all are you applying? Edinburgh would probably give you unconditional! Since AP exams don't technically equate to A-levels, the straight AAA offers we see don't translate into U.S. qualifications.

Scottish unis in particular tend to give out unconditionals to international students because of all the $$$ we bring in for them, so it's in their best interest. People last year with wayyyy lower stats than that got unconditional offers, which is why I consider it my safety school. Trust me, I'm anything but confident in my application! I have no 5's, as of yet, only 4's (on 4 exams and a pitiful 2 in Stat. ) but I'm predicted a few 5's and if you've already got one or two under your belt, you should be fine. Honestly, straight 5's seem to only be necessary for Oxbridge and maybe a few others but that's about it.

I would take a look at Nottingham, York, Exeter, and KCL. With those scores, you could easily get unconditional at any of those, all of which are fabulous schools!

Not going for any unconditionals. For the schools that I would get them at, it isn't worth applying/attending. I could attend a better uni in the states and then go to the UK for grad school. Just to throw out an extreme example...it isn't worth going to London Met, knowing I can go to a top 50 school in the states.

I'm really banking on getting an offer from Edinburgh. For my qualifications (one year of US uni) they give an offer of a 3.0 GPA. Which is pretty sweet. If I get into any other uni, Edinburgh will pretty much be my automatic insurance. Just because I know for a fact I can obtain a 3.0. If, say, I got an offer from QM, LSE (only in a million years), and Edinburgh. It would be stupid of me to put LSE and QM as my firm and insurance, respectively, since they both offer 3.5 GPA.

Wow, you certainly make me feel better than any of the admissions tutors or websites! Haha. I am sure you will get in with four 4's, absolutely. My APs last year were "easy" group B, AP Environmental Science and AP US Government & Politics. Anywho I am applying to SOAS, King's College London, Edinburgh, Queen Mary, Royal Holloway (or Goldsmiths/Aberdeen/can't decide for safety school)... and If I get rejected from all/don't get unconditional offers in any I will be applying for a foundation year at KCL... that is if I get rejected from my other 7 Universities outside of the UK.

Seriously, I really hope we all do well. I have no problem paying the international fees... I wouldn't mind if that was an enticing factor on our applications as Americans.

It sure is! And those are great schools. I'm sure you will get in where you really want to go! :yep: I can't wait until we actually start getting offers and can celebrate about it! This whole journey is so exciting, far more exciting than applying in the U.S., I find. Ah, thanks! I think you overestimate my chances, though. I'm a bit worried about it all, particularly UCL, where there's an interview. But like I said, most unis will be begging to have you!

I hope so, too. It would certainly be nice to know where we are going before other people at our schools and stuff. I know I just can't wait to send out my app. That is, if my teacher would ever decide to take 5 minutes to put in my stinking reference! Intense amounts of frustration over here. I mean, if she doesn't want to do it, at least tell me and let me get it from someone else. She said she's going to copy and paste the letter she wrote for me in but hasn't. It's been nearly a month and yesterday she said she would and didn't and today she said she would and nothing. I'm at a loss!

I am sure you will get your reference AND app in by the end of this week! Honestly I am not even submitting my application until October 29... when I get my SAT scores back, which I am worried is too late to submit my application. Oh well

As for UCL, that is the 4th best university in the world, so of course it is going to be competitive, but all you can do is try. I think you have a shot because I know they require four AP's in the 4-5 range and you already have 3-4 4's and you are predicted to get some 5's this year as well. I hope you get into your top choice. And you are applying for Scandinavian studies, right? I don't think that is as competitive as say law... so that is more of a relief there.

My first choice is KCL... and then SOAS, then Edinburgh, Queen Mary, and then whatever I decide as my safety school.

    Good luck!

    Essex!!! :p:

I'm applying to QM, KCL, UCL and York besides that. I hope hope I can get into KCL, even though UCL is the better school I LOVE KCL's campus. :yep:

I'm submitting a year of US uni, ACT scores, and AP scores I only have two now a 5 in Psych and a measly 3 in Language. Buttt I'm taking 5 more this year so hopefully I can pull a 4 in literature. the rest can be easy 5's with studying (except Stat, I fall asleep in there everyday.)

I hope I can get in, I'm just ready to submit my app. but waiting on my new ACT scores..:eek3:

With some variation I am applying to 5-6 UNIS outside UK/US and 2 in the USA.

YAY! Wait... how are you submitting a year of US uni and still taking AP classes? Also... what subjects are you applying for?

And yes, King's campus is amazing... you really can't beat that location.

Thanks so much! I really needed that. Reassurance is good at times like these. But yeah, SS is hardly as competitive as law. There are less people applying but only 13 spots so I guess that's why I'm anxious!

There are no limitations on spots for international students... as I understand. The government does not put limits on universities for international students.

    Dual enrollment snitchess!!
I've taken 6 classes that count as both high school credit and Uni credit. Two of those classes count as two Uni classes. So while I'm still in high school I'm also completing my freshman year at uni.

I'm going for English and Communication at King's (it's pretty much a linguistics course.) Just plain Linguistics for the rest.

And I plan on being one of 'em. :viking:

But yea, I'm sure all the worrying will be for nothing! I'm sure you'll get in, you have the stats, and then oh my! If I get in too, WHAT IF WE GO TO THE SAME SCHOOL AND WE BOTH STUDY SS.

    Wild.

I should be studying for an AP class.
    Righto.

Ha! Same! AP Econ calls but the temptation to study for my test tomorrow just isn't there... And that would be awesome! I really hope we both get into SS. You can teach me Norwegian, and I'll teach you Swedish! Score! :woo: Here's hoping we BOTH get 1/13 spots!
