I'm from Loughborough.. any questions?
Welcome to Loughborough University: where prospective and current students can discuss everything from being a drinking university with a sporting problem to why everyone wears flip flops in winter.

Re: I'm from Loughborough.. any questions?Mentioning of places to eat/work/drink/exercise/avoid would be nice(Original post by adelepops)
Hi there guys,
I'm from Loughborough. I have lived there all my life and know it very well!
If you have any questions about the area, places to eat/work/drink/exercise/places to avoid please ask away! x

Re: I'm from Loughborough.. any questions?
Yes, don't really do ab exercises. Abs get hit hard with heavy deadlifts and squats. I do occasionally do hanging leg raises or weighted crunches, visible abs are more about bodyfat level though.

Is that you in your profile pic? If it is what abs exercises do you do? -
Re: I'm from Loughborough.. any questions?
There are plenty of shops in Lough, including plenty of supermarkets and stuff, and there are a few half decent bars and the like there. One word of advice I would give though, is that if you by any chance are asked to go to Echos nightclub, make sure you're absolutely ploughed before you go in, because if you aren't you'll be a) mightily disappointed or b) disgusted by the thick black mess that coats the flooring. Happy days

Re: I'm from Loughborough.. any questions?
Well.. they lurk around in certain parts. lol. But its like everywhere, you get sheetheads. Don't worry too much, there are so many students in Lough, and they tend to go to students places x
I like Echo's! Better than wild. Its not Oceana but its the best Lough has! x -
Re: I'm from Loughborough.. any questions?I miss the noodle bar(Original post by adelepops)
My fav place is a place called the noodle bar. It's really cheap, fast chinese restaurant. Massive tables and good for socialising. Only catch is u have to pay cash, but there is a cash machine in the foyer.
Been trying to find a replacement but no where can compete

So right now I am LOVING you.
Can you possibly think of any other places I could apply for a job? Any bars/restaurants/cafe's which you know hire or which I could try?
awww! Yeah, Varsity is a good bet, they are usually hiring bar staff, i think if you look online you can get the number for it if you dont live in Lough yet. It's a bar/cafe in the town centre. As soon as you move there, get into a newagents and buy the Loughborough Echo, it is a local paper with jobs advertised in the back. Cannot stress enough to get in early!! x x
Here is the paper's website for local info, but buy the paper! It comes out on Thursdays x x

Ah thankyou so so much
I have emailed my CV to every single place you've named- so fingers crossed I guess. I hate being unemployed.
P.S. is Loughborough a nice town? I've heard it's majorly scuzzy- and what I've seen hasn't actually made me think otherwise... Are there any nice bits? Also (and more importantly) how many Topshops are there!! haha cheers!!xxx -
Re: I'm from Loughborough.. any questions?hehe! there is a topshop.. just the one.. It is a little scummy in places, but not all of it. There is a nearby village called Quorn which is LOVELY for drinks in the evening, not hip hop and happening but very civilised for early evening gatherings! Another place you might wanna apply for a job is the Curzon cinema, it is right in the town centre. If i think of anywhere else i'll let u know. x x(Original post by sparklestar_)

Re: I'm from Loughborough.. any questions?Just a slight edit, I believe the cinema in the centre is now called Reel? Thought I'd point that out in case you have trouble trying to apply for a job there! No offence intended(Original post by adelepops)
