My question ^ cheers in advance :P -
Re: I'm from Loughborough.. any questions?Er Noodle Bar or Moomba or something? There's some decent restaurants about to tempt you to rise from the usual takeaway/Wetherspoons student standards(Original post by ru7lan)
In loughborough itself are there any places where you can go for a drink and not feel like a tramp?
Obviously they will be more expensive but I'm talking of a place with some 'class' since I personally don't always like going out as a tramp.

Re: I'm from Loughborough.. any questions?Self-Catered Halls - I'll try and be as unbiased as possible, despite having lived in one for two years and been on committee!!(Original post by Juanitor)

My question ^ cheers in advance :P
Butler Court - Seems to be decent fun, but several rooms taken up by elite athletes, who tend to be less fun. Also the possibility you might end up sharing a room, which puts a fair few people off.
Harry French - The closest hall to town, which obviously means furthest from campus, which can be a ballache if you do a degree that has a lot of contact hours.
Rigg-Rut - Very good feel about the place, perhaps because it's a smaller hall so everyone knows everyone, but then equally you're less likely to meet a lot of people.
Robert (Bobby) Bakewell - Larger kitchen areas and nicer rooms, but this naturally comes with a higher price. Also on the edge of the on campus student 'village', which is great if you do an engineering degree, but also puts you quite far from the union/town,
Telford - The smallest hall. Everyone I know that's lived there seems to love it, but I personally don't see the appeal, all the things that a hall does; socials, sport, charity etc. just don't seem to be as big or as fun. Also the possibility of sharing a room, similar to Butler.
The Holt - Only to be used as a last resort. Off campus in a direction that isn't useful, very expensive rooms for what they are, and little to no fun compared to any of the others.
William Morris (Bill Mo) - One of the better value for money halls when you look at price against type of room. Closest to the union and second closest to town. Usually has the second most number of people there, next year will have the most due to work on Falk Egg, which means the opportunity to meet around 280 freshers, but also a greater proportion of returners and finalists are let in - some of which will get you excited about the hall, but some of which you'll never see in the whole year.
Village Court (Falk Egg on Tour) - Just don't. it won't be the same if they're not in the actual hall, although the rebuild of Village Court will have improved things, you're better off going with another 'village' hall if you're thinking about it.
Pretty sure that covers everything... by all means question anything I've said, hopefully I've managed to be unbiased! -
Re: I'm from Loughborough.. any questions?
Hi,
I'm not a student but am definitely like minded - after graduating some years ago I worked as a bar manager for Scream - hence hijacking your forum! I am looking for a bit of honest advice about Loughborough and think that this is probably the place to ask! We are thinking of moving to Loughborough and were wondering which areas to avoid like the plague! I now have a young family - alas my days of partying til dawn are now over - but reckoned that I'd get a frank reply here as students normally know where all the scallys live and therefore where to NOT go. Where are the dodgy council estates? Surprisingly, estate agents aren't too forthcoming with this info and it would make our house hunting easier by far if we could eliminate some.
Thanks for your help and enjoy the end of term x -
Re: I'm from Loughborough.. any questions? You'll probably want to focus your search on the area south and southeast of the campus. It's quieter, doesn't have a lot of students, and is generally reasonably up market. Basically this area:(Original post by far2old)
