17 year old not allowed to go to shop at 9pm
To explain the rather vague thread title, I'm the 17 year old (18 in December) and I was going to go to a Tesco down the road to pick up some toilet cleaner when my mum suddenly said that it was "too late".

Now...I would like to hear TSR's views. I'd be intrigued to see how many people think my mum has a valid point, and how many think that she's an overprotective maniac that should loosen up a bit.

Bit nuts. Does she have a reason to be paranoid? Im not being funny, but has she been raped/mugged ever? I know my next door neighbour became really reclusive after his house was robbed, maybe shes just overreacting to something like that.

But yeah. I think its a bit too much.

I started getting taxis on my own at 2 in the morning from town when I was 17, but each parent has different opinions. Although it does seem a little overprotective.

    The latter.

I'm more intrigued about what you've managed to do in the toilet that you need some this late? :p:

You're seventeen. You're invincible. She has no base for an argument against you going out at night.

Yeah that's true but still, I think it just depends on how much parents trust you and how protective they are.

Btw what is a specialist advisor? It's something new right....?

    She's overprotective.

I could understand more if it was say a dad telling his daughter that, but I think your mam is just going over the top a bit.

Tell your mother to losen the ******* apron strings.

In a polite way of curse.

Jesus Mary and Joesph i hate it when parents go in to overprotective maniac mode and treat you like your a 12 year old kid.

Maybe she thought that it was a bit late for going to the shop just to buy toilet cleaner.

E.g. If my boyfriend said he was going to buy toilet cleaner from the shop and it was 9pm, my reaction would likely be "It's a bit late isn't it?".

Depends on the area really..going outside after 9pm living on a council estate in south london would probably be a bad idea, no?
