Does anyone have an opinion about Douglas Murray?

Does anyone have an opinion about Douglas Murray the director of the Centre for Social Cohesion.

From what I've seen of him he seems a very nice chap - obviously intelligent and has strong viewpoints on most things especially the Islam and Israel thing -

dont agree with everything he says, for example he didnt seem to think the binge drinking culture of the youth in Britain was representative of Britain but I think it's a big problem and you see it everywhere out on the streets at nights in cities -

however he does seem one of those people who has such a strong and magnetic personality that it's impossible to stop listening to him once he starts to speak - intelligence and charisma is a powerful combination - what do you all think about his views and personality?

To be honest with you I think we should base our judgement of people less on their 'Charisma' or 'delivery' but on their actual message

Douglas Murray is a neo-conservative and zionist - he has not put forward any intelligible solution to the Palestinian & Israeli conflict .....which isn't surprising considering Zionists will see any criticism of Israel as unreasonable..

In relation to Islam - he propounds the same insular rhetoric on the BBC's Question Time as the right wing press such as the The Sun and Daily Telegraph

Interestingly - Neo Conservatism ( especially in relation to the middle east ) is the belief that the west can use it's economic and military power to bring democracy to the middle east - this ideology has caused more problems than solutions....

It would be interesting to see who funds Douglas Murray and why he chose the words 'centre for cohesive studies' when in fact, if you actually listen to what he says in particular about Islam & Muslims - he doesn't facilitate greater understanding between non - muslims and the Islamic faith.

He calls himself a Zionist, according to Wiki, quoting the Sun newspaper.
I agree with the vast majority of things he says, he is my political hero though!!

I'm not sure utopian 'solutions' to the Israel/Palestinian conflict are much use to anyone. If given my way, I'd have a non-sectarian, one-state solution - but it'll never happen. Perhaps it isn't about finding a solution, but about managing conflict and attempting to remove the most aggressive elements.

So, one moment he's not idealistic enough, and now he's too idealistic and utterly rejecting the practicalities of democratising the Middle East?

Anyway, he's certainly an excellent advocate for his cause.

Well, Murray - and I disagree with him on this - supports an integrationist rather than multicultural approach to immigration. As a multiculturalist, I accept there will be social strains between cultures and 'communities'. Oh, and the CSC was established by a grant from Civitas.

I like him. Don't agree with everything he says, but I do think he makes some valid points. Whether you agree with him or not, the one think I will say is that he seems to back up his arguments with some logic.

Whether you agree with him or not, i think its brilliant that there is someone intelligent with a more right wing point of view in the public eye.

I think it is a point which Murray actually believes himself - generally intelligent and educated people tend to have an inclination to more left wing, socialist views, which tends to lead to a more left wing bias from many political comentators, writers and arguably the BBC.

Finally there is someone with intelligence, with (in my mind) sensible, logical right wing arguments to offer an alternative to more common left wing ideas about issues such as islamism, multiculturalism and Isreal - without being a biggoted fascist such as those speaking from the BNP.

Personally, i think its about time that someone came along to challange the idea that if you even think about mentioning Muslims as nothing other than an enrichment to our society - you ARE a racist - and if you have conservative views - you DON'T care about people.

As you can probably tell, i quite like this guy :P

comments on question time by DM such as "we don't have to give Osama bin ladin a proper burial" are designed to attract other right wingers by emotional rhetoric.......

Douglas Murray was silenced by the more rational thinking Paddy Ashdown who reminded Douglas that if we claim to have the high moral ground against terrorists then we have to show it by giving Osama Bin Ladin a proper burial - it sends a signal out to all terrorists that we do not live by their standards......

its about time that someone came along to challange the idea that if you even think about mentioning Muslims as nothing other than an enrichment to our society - you ARE a racist - and if you have conservative views - you DON'T care about people.

Try and debate the whole issue of the legitimacy of Israel - you will be accused of anti-semitism ......in fact - try asking a British Zionist Jew who their allegiance lies with if the UK and Israel went to war with each other - Israel or the UK ? - no prizes for guessing it's not the UK.....that doesn't enrich our society....so let's not isolate muslims in this regard.....

Personally, I think he is brilliant. I used to be regarded as
I agree with much of what he says, his defence of free speech on Big Questions during the Charlie Hebdo situation was spot on.
Douglas Murray and Christopher Hitchens both I find intellectually synchronized with my thinking and feelings. Both amassing.
He's obsessed with Islam, on a level bordering on Islamophobia. Indeed, it would not be a stretch to call him an islamophobe. Not a day goes by that he doesn't "slag" off Islam. I'd even argue that his support for Israel is tied to his hatred/fear of Islam. He may also be a "cultured racist". He is also a complete hypocrite. Look up his previous stance on gay marriage.
