Hi everyone! I'm Valentino, and I'm planning to study in the UK for the academic year 2011/2012.
Now it's just a hypothesys; I'm considering to study in Scotland, because of the financial support offered. Are you all prospective students, or are there any undergraduate students currently studying there?

I'm Italian and planning to enter a university in UK for 2011. (in my signature you can see the universities I'm applying)
    I have a question:
Has the university asked you to send a certified copy of your high school diploma? Where did you do that? I was thinking of doing it in my "comune" [nel mio comune] (where I live) but I would like to be sure before wasting money. Thanks

It's kinda funny see all those italian flags over there, on the top of each post LoL

I'm tryin' to apply. Do you guy know what UCAS means with "Education"? I thought it was just our Liceo but then I was told that we're supposed to write down ALL those schools we had been in. Which it means Primary and Middle school too... little bit odd, isnt it? Not sure If I should really insert these schools.

    Btw yaaaa I'm italian too.

@Andrepi: how cool, are you going to study chinese too? And about your question, I'm not completely sure but since my school pubblish our degrees just online, the only way to have them is going in the school website. It's a legal document, signed by the school and the principal and with my name, but instead of just having a paper copy in my house i have both. Sooo... not sure. You should ask to someone that had already applied.

    - I have put only high school on UCAS form (and a few other certifications) but not middle or primary school ( I don't think it's necessary, if you have gone to high school you must have already completed middle and primary). A few other Italians I have heard (which are starting this september) have put only their high school, so I don't think it's necessary to put middle or primary school.

    - About chinese, not necessarily: it depends which universities give me offers. Westminster is my 4th or 5th choice in reality (but it's interesting because it requires to make one year in China; I always dreamed of visiting China).
But I'll probably study arabic (if salford, my first choice, gives me an offer). It's a pretty cool course you study arabic and make 1 year of work in an arabic country.

I was interested in learning both arabic and chinese, but few universities have these two languages in the same degree, and they require 5 years of study, soo... just a little bit long. Plus I've already been a year in China so i gave up arabic. Still, im not sure if i'm going to apply for next year; I should finish high school first, then maybe a gap year somewhere...i fell like if I'm going to waste time, though. I've already done something like a gap year, can't see any motivation why i should do another one so close in time to my first.
Have you already finished high school or are you in 13th grade as well?

Ps. Well, I thought too that putting middle school and primary school was a little bit unusual. Now I'm completely sure, thanks.

I finished High school (liceo) nearly 5 years ago, I'm applying as a mature student (I'm 23 years old). I spent 6 months in Australia (let's call it a gap half-year) and the for the rest just took some certifications and worked mostly.
What courses/subjects/unis you were thinking to do anyway?

    Hi everybody!

I'm Italian too, but I've been living in Spain for almost three years now.
I'm applying for the 2011 entry. I'll be doing Politics & Sociology and I have already some universities in mind. I just hope I won't be aiming too high!
Anyway, after that, I'd like to study a MA in Journalism and settle down in the UK, at least for the next decade. :awesome:

I'd like to ask you something guys... How come you've all decided to go to study in England? I'm just really curious.:innocent:
I mean, I wasn't born in Italy and in my family we used to change cities very often in the past (let's say almost 10 times in the last 10 years ), so I'm not very attached to the city in which I'm living in right now, and mostly, I hate the thing that in Spain there isn't much choice when it comes to looking for an undergraduate course (like in my case, being that I want to do a dual degree, which also in here takes 5 years).
But what does it make you all want to take this big step further from your family and friends? I suppose most of you have had a much usual life than mine, so I guess going away from Italy for so long must be much more difficult for you. I think it takes even more courage and strength of will than in my case.
What are your reasons guys? Do we all love that much the rainy weather?

Anyway, good luck to all of you!
Personally, I'm sure that almost 90% of us do that because of the extremely bad conditions of Italian higher education..
Moreover, I'm going to graduate in a scientific subject (chemistry), so studying here will only procrastinate a hypothetical move to another country (because I'll hardly have chances to find a job..). In my city there aren't any good universities, so I'll definitely study in another city. The difference between Florence and Edinburgh is the higher standard british educational system. That's all

I'm not worried about homesickness, but it depends on my personality.
And I'd like to change.. It'll be stimulating.

Have you already done the personal statement? Damn, it's hard to choose the subject, the university, the course, to write the statement.. When do you think your UCAS application will be made?

    Re: Italy?
Well, for me it's easy because I already lived in Sydney (Australia) for nearly six months and now that I've returned to Italy, I really can't stand it anymore. I miss shopping malls and supermarkets near my house, I miss stores being open every day and every hour (I really can't stand anymore small cities like the one where I live now in Italy; I live in "periferia" ). Also the job situation is terrible where I live in Italy: me and my friends are unemployed for so many months.

Also another reason is the horrible experience I had with a few universities here in Italy . Totally disorganized and with old and small buildings spread all over the city. Classrooms overcrowded and lessons/lectures and even exams often overlapped. Also more importantly I really want to try the experience of living in a campus.

Also the degrees I applied in Uk offer a whole year of paid work placement (In italy degrees offer maximum 1 month of internship and very often it's not even paid).
I too hope to settle in the UK after the degree.

I feel too young among all of you
I'd been a year abroad in China, with AFS. I met so man cultures and such open-minded people that once back to Italy I recognized it was impossible for me stay in Italy more than what i'm obliged to. I had to come back because my contract said so and I have to finish my high school, but I feel kinda in jail here. I just wanna be outta here soon, possibly in a good university well recognized all over the world. I've just heard about Italian universities' bad situation; but it was surely enough to make me understand that study abroad again would be the only plausible option.
Sooo I'm here, applying to my chosen unis. Loving the english option Modern Language+ a completely different subject as a major. Something I didnt find in italian universities, especially if the modern language was chinese -.-

That is exactly the same feeling I have had since I returned to Italy from Australia.

Have you all sent you application? I'm checking everyday Track hoping that I receive an offer, but still nothing. I really hope they will answer/make offers quickly.

By the way I'm also applying to a few universities in Ireland, in case no university in UK accepts me or gives me an offer. Just to be sure.

P.S.: Just received my second acknowledgment, this time from University of Bath. (I received the first one from Salford more than 3 weeks ago).

Can I ask a question? How will you manage for the reference in the UCAS application process?

    Re: Italy?
I got a reference from a tutor while I was attending an Open university course (it's a distance education english university; it's what you would call in Italian "università telematica o online" ).
But I also got a reference from a previous employer / "datore di lavoro" (but I couldn't use it because I could put only one reference in UCAS form and I decided to use the first one).

The universities I asked said that also a working reference from a previous employer (datore di lavoro) is fine and accepted.
A person I know instead asked for one from his old English teacher in High school.

P.S.: by the way I received yesterday another acknowledgment email from one of my choices (Bath), while I received the first one about 3 weeks ago from Salford. In the next weeks I should hopefully receive my first offer.
