Re: Official 'Gappies' Thread for 2011-2012 :D
Hi
I have recently decided that after my last year of A levels I am going to have a gap year. I am going to do a lot of volunteering with social/children's services in my area and volunteer at church. I will probably go on a pilgrimage to France for a few weeks for the next 2 summers. I am in the process of planning my gap as I am unsure about whether to apply for social work or childhood studies so hopefully it will give me time to make my mind up.
are we all going to share our plans and support each other- that would be really cool! -

Re: Official 'Gappies' Thread for 2011-2012 :D
I'm starting my last year at school, and as i've only just decided to take a gap year in 2011/12, nothing's planned - only stuff for the school year lined up!
Hopefully, i'll get a job this year, then during my gap year i can increase my hours to make more money
Also, voluntary work in a care home is happening soon, so i hope that can be a very long-term thing, and work experience in a hospital!

Re: Official 'Gappies' Thread for 2011-2012 :D
In an ideal world I'd LOVE to travel around SE Asia - Laos, Cambodia, Thailand & Vietnam. Also would love to see Australia and a friend in NZ.
But I'm going to only just turn 18 so im thinking of doing a placement with a volunteer organisation called lattitude (google em' - looks good) perhaps in Fiji or Vanuatu. This will work out cheaper and keep my parents minds at rest as I wouldn't be travelling entirely on my own, then in 2012 I will start uni and then inbetween years you have alot of holiday in which i can travel to SE Asia

Re: Official 'Gappies' Thread for 2011-2012 :DThat sounds really good! I'd love to do something like that also, i'd love to volunteer abroad in somewhere (particularly a developing country)(Original post by soph_surfs)

Re: Official 'Gappies' Thread for 2011-2012 :D
Hi This is a further update on my gap year plans. I finished the autumn term today so really happy about that. My sixth form is pretty anti gap year to be honest but i am sticking to my guns. I think i am going to apply for primary education courses in my local area hopefully getting a place at Northumbria next year mainly due to tuition fee increase but this is not set in stone.
At the moment my gap year plans are to learn to drive- i have been told i will get lessons for my 18th which is at the end of June do not think i will be getting a car mind. I will hopefully get a part time job and save the money i earn for university even though it will not be much. I want to volunteer at a local Christian primary school regularly and go on another religious pilgrimage to Taize in France- not sure how long i will go for. Currently i volunteer through the local childrens centres and i hope to up my hours. I may do another AS level but it depends on what i get for them next year. Maybe psychology or media... i am going to sit down with my friend who i did work experience with in year 11 to hopefully plan my gap year with the head of sixth form after the January exams.
I only have 6 months and 14 days untill the end of school!!! -
Re: Did anyone else willingly take a gap year and is starting uni in 2012?
Uhh... kind of. I only just discovered the career I want to do and have to wait until next UCAS year to apply. It's my second degree though so not really a gap year... I want to go now, I don't know if I can wait 12 months... Argh.
