Re: Did anyone else willingly take a gap year and is starting uni in 2012?
Not really a gap year, but i have to do an extra year of further education in the form of an Art and Design Foundation diploma, as most decent fashion and arts degrees require this. But I am doing this at a Uni sector college away from home, so it will be just like uni, but without the loan.

Re: The "I'm having a gap year and reapplying" thread
I'm taking a gap year. And I'm miserable, worried I'm gonna make no knew friends, that me and bf are almost certainly breaking up and it's gonna be awful watching everyone else have the time of their lives
.
Please someone cheer me,feel so rubbbish. -

i know exactly how you feel, you're not alone. My boyfriend got 3 A's and is heading off to Lancaster after applying last minute and I've been in love with Lancaster since I first saw it and didn't get in. Absolutely heart breaking, but that's life and you have to deal with it.
Keep yourself busy, there are so many things you can do in this year. It will make you stronger and hopefully pay off in the long run.

Re: The "I'm having a gap year and reapplying" threadYeah I hope so. ALL my friends are talking about right now is uni, and I feel like my bf is distancing myself from me and I'm gonna hate it if we definitely break up. If I get into med this was all worth it though, I just feel sort of like I have no purpose and for the first time in my life there are no guarantees about anything.(Original post by dr.phalange)

I know the feeling, it's horrible. When your chest is just tight all the time and your heart feels really heavy :'(
We will get past this and in 10 years time be millionaires ;-)
But seriously, things will get better
Just keep your chin up xx

Re: The "I'm having a gap year and reapplying" thread
I'm taking a gap year and resitting my A Levels! Because i'm a foolish fool and took a big risk that backfired. And I didn't want to force myself into Clearing. Anyway, i'm almost glad i get to re do UCAS as there are a lot more doors that have opened for me now.

Re: The "I'm having a gap year and reapplying" thread
I'm not really having a gap year. I did terrible in my exams and I left studying a little too late. I missed my firm where I really wanted. My results were just bad. So I'm retaking my exams and hope I can make my offer this time round. I guess one year isn't too bad if it gets me into the place I want.

I don't mind not being a millionaire I just wanna be a doctor :P.
Hopefully I'll get an offer! It's my dream career so it's worth taking a year out to apply I suppose.
What are you applying for? -
Re: The "I'm having a gap year and reapplying" threadI'm applying for Law(Original post by Fizzingwhizbee)

Yeah don't give up! I'm kind of getting over it.. but waiting on remarks and that's holding me back a bit from planning my gap year! :/
Do you think we'll still get offers despite having to retake A2? -

Re: The "I'm having a gap year and reapplying" thread
I'm taking a "unexpected" gap year. Going to re-sit A2 Psychology, get a GCSE in a Modern Foreign Language & get as much experience as possible, whilst continuing on at my part-time job and saving up some money for 2012 entry. :-) I feel as if I have a lot more time to get myself sorted out as I felt in 2011 entry, it was so rushed and I really didn't have a clue. >_>
I got BBD in my A Levels, so I'm going to try and get BBB... I might re-sit all three and aim for AAB...Last edited by Aijin; 24-08-2011 at 16:57. Reason: spelling. I should re-learn English too >_> -
Re: Any 2011 applicants contemplating applying for 2012 entry?Hi, what are you planning on doing in your gap year? Im basically in the same situation as you. No real cons and lots of pros so im happy with a gap year but want to do something constructive. Ive got some ideas but was hoping for some inspiration in this thread but it seems to be everyone asking about advice and reassurance -_-(Original post by Strüberry)
Hi.
That's (or was) my initial pro-con list of reapplying to university for 2012. I was really, really screwed up at first but I've whittled the cons down to this:
- Offer is not guaranteed but nothing ventured will always be nothing gained. Period.
- The fee rise is pesky, yes, but no more frustrating than carrying on with an insurance place that I don't really want to go to and have a high chance of dropping out. And doing that would lumber me with fees for a certificate I'll never have and my extra year of Student Finance help wasted for nothing.
- Would I rather be 19/20 and joyous (
) or 18/19 and miserable? Would I prefer to study my dream course at my dream university or would I settle for my not-so-dreamy insurance? And you forget that that university is nothing like sixth form. There will be people of all ages and it is actually more a matter of maturity and attitude than age. When you arrive, people won't be all like "OMG YOU DUTTY LEPER GET AWAAAAAAY!!!!" and shun you. The bulk of students on your course will 18-21 with a fair few older ones (40+!) and most will not give a single toss about your age. There is literally zero difference between the mind of an 18 year old and a 19 year old and it would be a very silly reason to deny yourself the course you've obsessed over for the last 10 months.
Et voila. That is how I decided to reapply again. I realised that all my cons were imaginary!

Re: The "I'm having a gap year and reapplying" threadHi what are your travelling plans? and any other plans for this year. Im looking for inspiration(Original post by Julian_valensi)
Im doing this!
Far as im concerned im too young NOT to travel the world.

Re: The "I'm having a gap year and reapplying" threadSo far all I've decided on is; retaking certain modules in jan, finally learning to drive, getting some work experience. I also like the idea of going travelling next year. Do you have any plans?(Original post by salty_candy)

Re: The "I'm having a gap year and reapplying" thread
Meee! Well, slightly. I applied for deferred entry, (yes, I really don't care about fees. We only pay when we're earning so I don't see what the problem is; I get that it's more money, but I personally think it's worth it given we have the opportunity of going to some of the best uni's in the world!) and I've been accepted to Glasgow, but I may reapply elsewhere depending on the results of a re-mark or two.
So, I'm moving to Paris in a week (ahhh!) to do the year abroad programme through ULIP and then do some gap-yearish stuff. Although technically this is my third gap year so it's starting to lose the magic.
Best of luck to everyone who's reapplying!!
