Deferred entry

Hi,
I applied a uni for this year's entry on UCAS form, but recently I asked this uni if they allow me to defer my entry to next year or not, and they agreed. But doing so, I intend to use the gap year to reapply to another uni, while retaining this uni place.
On the UCAS letter, there is a statement 'If your place is for deferred entry you cannot reapply in the 2011 entry cycle unless you withdraw from this offer.'
Does that mean I am not able to do so? Coz I think I didn't apply for deferred entry on UCAS form, instead I just reached compromise with the uni. Is it unless I give up the place I won't be able to reapply to other uni?
Thank you!
they wont let u hold a place and re-apply elsewhere, its unfair on other people wanting a place

You can't hold a place and reapply. It doesn't matter how you try to do it. If you do submit a new application, UCAS will find out and you risk losing both applications.

However, you may be able to ask the uni if they would make you a new offer if you reapplied.
