Re: Would you apply to an OK uni to do the course you love over a top uni to study...
Well i went for the better uni (UCL) to study a degree that i'm not as passionate about (biological sciences) instead of the worse uni (Plymouth) to study the subject that i want to study (marine biology). So i guess i would be the second option; however, it's not that i just chose a course at a top uni that i could get into; i have a genuine interest in the biological sciences and just enjoy the marine biology strand to any other so i will enjoy my degree subject at the top uni.

Re: Would you apply to an OK uni to do the course you love over a top uni to study...hokey, didn't see your "e.g"/read it properly. was woken up so bit tired.(Original post by unknownrebalz)
It was an example!
This is not my own personal issue so your point just fails.
The point of the thread is to find out who would sacrifice studying the course that they love for a top uni and who wouldn't; and has nothing to do with my own personal issues....

Re: Would you apply to an OK uni to do the course you love over a top uni to study...
Doing a degree at a top University isn't everything, its necessary but not fixed.. if you go to say a University which is located mid-table on the Rankings and then complete a Masters at a top University, you will make up for it!

Re: Would you apply to an OK uni to do the course you love over a top uni to study...When you do your A levels, please tell me what you get, and take a photo of yourself at the moment when you realise it's not as easy as you make it sound.(Original post by im so academic)
Actually on second thoughts, give me any Oxbridge degree than a "subject I love" at a crap university.
And then take another when you have to go settle for.......London South Bank
EDIT: For the OP, definitely a degree you love at an 'okay' uni. You'll do far more with a degree in a good subject from Oxford Brooke or wherever than a degree in a 'less useful' subject from a uni like LSE. Also, if you're doing a degree in a subject you don't enjoy you're just going to do badly, and ultimately, probably drop out.Last edited by heyimbored; 30-08-2010 at 03:43. -
Re: Would you apply to an OK uni to do the course you love over a top uni to study...
Yes in the example in your OP where you're talking about completely different courses. However, were it something along the lines of biological sciences at UCL vs marine biology at Plymouth (as one of the above posters had to choose between), I'd go for UCL. I think in that example though, UCL has a lot of advantages aside from "prestige". Also, if it was a choice between the same basic course (say, history) at say Oxford and Leeds but Leeds had some more interesting sounding modules, I'm pretty sure I'd go for Oxford. I know a few people who had similar dilemmas actually and they all ended up choosing Oxbridge.

Re: Would you apply to an OK uni to do the course you love over a top uni to study...sorry but who the **** are you? i like these threads. i like these threads a lot. mostly because theyre always full of funny replies.(Original post by aprilterri)
It was kind of obvious since people do these kind of threads all of the time. Anyway I don't see how it is your business what the OP is doing. If you don't like the thread then don't comments. Simplez -
Re: Would you apply to an OK uni to do the course you love over a top uni to study...come here and say that to my face instead of hiding behind your computer screen(Original post by aprilterri)
Then why insult the OP by saying that they are looking for excuses? So what if they were it shouldn't bother you.
Oh and I'm replying because I'm sick of people on this site thinking that they can insult others because they can hide behind their computer screens.

Re: Would you apply to an OK uni to do the course you love, a top uni to study...This. I also think so.(Original post by Kerny)
I would like to go to as good a university as I possibly can get into for my subject, but anyone who picks the second option (go to a 'top' uni for a course that is relatively easy to get into purely because of the prestige of said institution) is pathetic imo
