Yay, music people

Yeah I'm applying to
Oxford
Cardiff
Manchester
Birmingham
Leeds

Then
Birmingham Conservatoire
Royal Northern College of Music
Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama

I might change the Oxford app though, my AS grades weren't amazing. I reckon I'd still have a chance but it might be a waste of a slot. hmmm
Oh yeah what instruments is everyone playing
My first studies are bassoon and alto sax
But then I also play flute, oboe, clarinet and the related families (like cor anglais, tenor, bari sax and stuff)

I need to learn piano :frown:

Oh and what fields of music is everyone interested in?

Remind me what your AS grades were and which college you were thinking of?

I'm just gonna keep an eye in this thread, to share the muso love! :musicus: That said, I've put in postgrad applications to Royal Holloway and Goldsmiths. Have an unconditional from the first but still waiting to hear from the second! :eek3: (This is for pop music, but in an ethnomusicology specialism  )

Well done on your postgrad app

I got AABBB and one of the Bs was music :frown: I got full marks on performance, and A for composition then I must have flopped the listening. I don't even really know what happened I got a D. I'll probably retake it in Jan though.

I was thinking of applying to either Lincoln or Christ Church.

Hmm, that is a tricky one. You didn't put it in for a remark? I hate to say it, but I think a B in Music could hold you back a bit :frown: That said, if there's nowhere else you'd rather apply and you wanted to see what would happen anyway...

I'd be leaning slightly more towards Christ Church, in this instance. PM me if you wanna chat about it more

Yeah see I'm thinking it might just waste a slot. :/
It's really annoying because I've been getting As all year and then the one exam and I've thrown away an opportunity for uni. hmmm
Yeah we spoke about the pros and cons before on the Oxford app thread. I think I would probably go for ChCh.
It's not the end of the world for me though, I really like the look of conservatoires and am warming to the idea of going to Cardiff.

I've never seen Cardiff but I've only ever heard good things about it :yep: And conservatoires seem like heaven, if you're a talented instrumentalist. I'm still slightly gutted that I didn't get into the RCM. I'm nowhere near good enough, but it's so pretty...

I want to do music!

Got AABB in my As's, (3marks off an A in history! grrr!)

Applying for Durham, Manchester, Bangor, Cardiff and Leeds.

When I get to uni I'll have grade 8 in harp and piano, and also music theory, and I got grade 4 with violin, and 3 in singing, but they were just for fun a few years ago!

I was talking with some people our age in Bangor open day, and they said that the facilities in Bangor were much better than Cardiff, but I'm going to use Cardiff as one of my options anyway!! Good luck everybody!

That genuinely sounds like the coolest thing in the world EVER. Not because I'm particularly interested in it myself, but just for the sound of it!!

Anyways, my instruments are voice, piano and violin :musicus:

What exam board? We got told we wouldn't be able to retake it for Edexcel cos of the set works changing every year...we'd have to learn a full new set which would just be hell on top of the A2 stuff :/

YES. I have been waiting for this thread (:

I will be applying for music for 2011, and my choices are in my signature, which are...
Leeds College of Music - Music (Jazz)
Surrey - Music
Liverpool - Music and Popular Music
Huddersfield - Music
Sussex - Music

Main instrument is guitar, although I also play tenor sax, alto sax, bass and sing too. Starting piano again as well soon aha.

I love and play progressive, metal, rock etc but I also play a lot of jazz (mainly jazz rock/fusion), hence applying for the course at LCM. I'm quite open to any type of music anyways. So yeah, hi

Yeah we were told we can't (I'm on edexcel) But if I want to learn a new lot of set works I don't see why they should stop me really. It's my future.
I'll kick up a fuss if they get arsey

Hahaha they can't really stop you, like you said you can just complain if they don't  Also one of the AS set works is also one of the A2 ones so you'll know that one in lots of detail!!

:wavey: Hellooooo!!

A few people I know (both teachers and people at/just having left uni) went to Huddersfield and all loved it, don't know anything about the others! You have quite an impressive list of instruments you play there :awesome:

Hihi!
And yes Huddersfield's facilities are pretty awesome there, besides my older brother is starting Music there himself very soon!

Surrey and Liverpool's course content are really good, and visited the places and loved the unis. I'll be visiting Leeds in October, which I can't wait for that.

It'll be cool to get some opinions on Sussex, if anyone's been there or known anyone at all, 'cause I can't make the open day dates and don't think I'll be able to see it anyway in time for my application deadline (our college wants ours in early).

And yeah aha :awesome: I'm sticking with guitar, along with tenor sax and piano though, don't want to focus on too many things aha.

I really don't know what my first instrument is which is probably going to cause problems at some point! It seems to change every term as they're all at the same level!! And I go off one instrument and then start working on a new piece I love and work for hours a day on just that instrument :s-smilie: but at some point I guess I'll have to make a decision as to which I want to keep as my first :/

Hello all

I'm also applying for Music - very exciting!

At the moment my definite choices are:
Oxford
Manchester

but then I'm also thinking about Bristol + Cardiff and I'm not really sure where else!

Would you like to tell Jamieq about Cardiff?
