As the title says, do I need to buy my own labcoat and goggles for the physics course?

If you haven't been told to, then no. When I started physics in 2004, they certainly didn't require it then - the majority of physics practicals don't require any protective clothing... the most dangerous thing you do will probably involve lasers or x-rays, and this probably won't be until 2nd or 3rd year anyway. You might get to play with a bit of liquid nitrogen now and again in first year, but it's actually surprisingly safe.

As long as you've got a whiteboard you should be ok to pick these up when you get down there... you do have a whiteboard right?
