I was in Westwood last year. There are big rooms and big kitchens, with many people sharing one kitchen. Your nearest supermarket will be Tesco, which is open 24 hours except on sundays, when it's open till 4pm. The accommodation is a 10/15 minute walk from the science department. There's a place called the Learning Grid which is close to Westwood. This is a place a bit like the library except it's smaller, you can talk and they have the main books for courses available for reference only.

I'm in Westwood too- studying English Lit. My only response when I told friends I know at Warwick that I'm at Westwood was 'Lololol hope you like walking'. Always encouraging, really. Hopefuly it'll be a nice buzzing place to be?

Hiya! I was in Westwood last year (Hampton). If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

The rooms are 5 metres long and 3 metres wide, so easily the biggest rooms on campus (apart from those delicious double-storey rooms in benefactors).

One of my favourite features about the rooms last year was the windows, they were three meters wide (the width of the entire room) and 2 meters tall, so you got LOADS of lovely natural light and usually a pretty nice view outside as well. You guys will be the first year to experience the refurbished halls, so you've all got double glazing.

To accommodate this massive space, you get a whole load of furniture. Including a massive 2-metre long desk (I miss that desk so much, it was massive), a bookshelf, a chest of drawers AND a wardrobe AND a bedside table, so plenty of storage. And two noticeboards (Plus your standard sink and mirror) - (My friends in rootes got a tiny 120cm wide desk, only one noticeboard and no chest of drawers)

Another thing you will get that many halls don't is a large common room, (I think some had vending machines and pianos in them?!, just hearsay, ours didn't) which is a great area to socialise, and you also have your own barbeque (one per hall) that you can use in the summer term for big barbeques on the green. Also you won't have to walk to the laundry rooms outside Rootes to do your Laundry, as each hall has its own washing machine, tumble dryer and airing cupboard.

Distance: One thing that really annoyed me was the 'lololo you're in westwood, gutted you is soooo far away': you're a 10-15 minute walk away, the same distance as Lakeside and Heronbank, basically. It's a fairly pleasant walk too, past the sports fields and the Learning Grid, there's a short video of the walk in here.

But being slightly isolated from main campus has its benefits: you don't feel so 'trapped in the bubble', and Westwood students are usually the first who dare venture off campus for shopping and nights out. Also, the 'Westwood campus' has it's own costcutter, cafe, and music rooms (complete with it's own drum kit)

The mix of students you get is partially down to luck, and partially down to what you wrote about yourself on your accommodation application. Personally I found it quite a good mix. Some nights we'd go out til 4am, and my halls went into Leamington Spa and Coventry for nights out regularly, they'd usually go out at least 3 times a week, so if you're into that, you'll have loads of fun. But there are quite a lot of more 'down to earth' people who just like a pint now and then and don't go nuts. That's the beauty of it really, when you're in rootes you're surrounded by self-professed 'partay animals' and when you're in Arthur Vick you're surrounded by people taking their education seriously. Westwood has a really comfortable mixture. There's around 70 of you to a hall, so you're bound to find someone you get along with.

See y'all there

how close is the westwood accomodation to the chemistry department?

A 15 minute walk, depending on how fast you walk. The two guys in my hall who did chemistry were adamant it only took them 10, but I suspect they were power-walking!

I have Westwood sharing too. Should be fun, although of course it will all depend on who we get paired with!
I have Westwood sharing. Not happy with it at all but I'll cope I guess :\
I have westwood sharing, rather pissed off, not about sharing, but I picked my choices so they were all right in the centre of campus, and I'm not looking forward to 18 in a kitchen.

I got Westwood sharing, sooooo angry. IMO Warwick should have planned for too many people getting their grades - maybe they gave too many offers?
I'm gonna get mum to ring up tomorrow, telling them I'm extremely distressed - because I kind of am :/ I really need my personal space sometimes. What do you think the chances of them changing their mind are?

They won't change their mind. That's the only offer you will get. Things will sort out after 4 weeks anyway and you will be in single rooms. Westwood sharing is only temporary. You or someone else will move out either to another place on campus or off campus.

Warwick have set targets when it comes to offers. The number of places offered can't simply be limited by the number of places on campus. Second years have to live off campus. Some final years have to live off campus.

If everyone had to live on campus then Warwick will be 6 times smaller than it is now.

Warwick Accommodation has come up with solutions in order to deal with this situation. They add an additional 75 places on campus as a reserve (150 people share rooms in Westwood). Some of these 75 people will then take up places at empty/no shows in other rooms on campus. The rest will be offered off campus accommodation. There are then 150 off campus places at Liberty Park, a hall shared with Cov uni students. The rest then will have to live off campus in smaller houses.

There is an allocation system in place to try and give accommodation fairly. There are 4 priority groups:
1) Medical reasons mean they are top priority.
2) Firm Warwick and apply for accommodation by 31st July, meet the offer by 31st August.
3) Insure Warwick and apply for accommodation by 31st July, meet the offer by 31st August.
4) Apply after 31st July, miss offer and come in via clearing, etc.

If the places on campus fills up by group 3, a random ballot is used to determine if you are on or off campus. Group 4 is done on a first come, first served basis.

All this information would have been available when you apply: WA has a strategy and policy here: http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/accommodation/studentaccommodation/all/campus/accommodation_strategy_and_policy.pdf
