Well at my uni the trips were included in the fee's. First year was a trip to the Lake District. Second year we are going to the Azores or Malta. Have a friend at Brighton who had a trip to Greece in the first year and it was subsidised though he had to pay something.

You'll need to check prospectuses (prospecti??) as each University will differ.

Note that I think if you go down the Human Geography route you'll probably do fewer field trips than the Physical Geographers. At Durham, as Human Geographers we only went to Liverpool (or Glasgow), you could've gone to Berlin if you took a particular optional module.

There is no way in hell a University will require you to fork out to go to San Francisco!! However maybe European locations as that's not all too expensive. Usually they are subsidised a bit, at least.

As I say, you'll need to look into it as to whether the field trips are:

a) optional (i.e. as part of a module that you could simply choose not to take)
b) subsidised
c) included in your tuition fees

Hope that helps a bit
