Hi all!

Good to see new people going to BBK. I have to say that BBk is a really good uni, it is true that it is a night lectures uni, focused to people that works (some of them with family), etc. But it is a cool university, it has a pub in the 4th floor (for me is one of the best pubs in London because it is waaaay too cheap!!!) and the atmosphere there is really good and friendly.

I was working when I started and I am working now, the difference is that when I started I was working as a cook, and one year later I have 6 months experience in a finance dept. in an international company, by the end of next course, I will have a good MSc and a lot of experience, which I wouldn't have had by studying in the mornings.

Having said that, in BBk you can make friends, lots of young people and what the f***, grown-ups do party too!!!! I had one party and the oldest was probably 55+ and he was the last man standing!

By the way, I am a part-time MSc Investment Management student, ready to start my 2nd year and ready to meet freshers and to prove that BBk is not boring at all... I am from Spain and my liver is trained to last!

If anyone needs help or advice regarding courses in the dept of business, economics and informatics let me know. Mine is a similar program to MSc Accounting and Financial Management, a bit more quant and less accounting... but I'll give you my two penny.

Welcome to BBk!

The faculty is quite new and modern, however there is no a specific room or building for business students, everybody shares everything. With respect to the classrooms sizes, be ready to swap between rooms during the term, because I have received lectures in 3 or 4 different rooms in different buildings during the last course, the buildings are quite close to each other though.

In the MSc in Investment Management we are just a few bunch, less than 15 in the first year. However most of the modules are the same for MSc Investment Management and Accounting and Financial Management, even other programmes from other depts (Business and Innovation, marketing...), and then it gets up to 40-45, maybe more this year that Investment Management is in its 2nd year.

It will be nice.

Dear Birkbeck Squadron,

I'm the founder and President of Birkbeck's Cycling Society. You may or may not have noticed some flyers in and around Birkbeck... but when you do it'll be me.

I want to do primarily three things this year.

1. Group/social rides - pick a place or route to cycle around and then cycle around it. Pub/bar afterwards. Rides would be from every 2-4 weeks because I don't want it to takeover your lives.

2. Maintenance classes for people who would like to learn how to repair their bicycles. Saves yourself a fair bit of money

3. Proficiency classes for those who are scared of riding on the road with traffic; and also for novices who want to learn - if there is enough demand.

And if anyone is passionate enough about cycling and wants to participate or be an activist for Cycling in some capacity, then by all means put forward your ideas and we'll see how to take the agenda forward.

Sign up on the birkbeckunion.org page and join the Birkbeck Cycling Society on Facebook.

I'll be doing my first ride this Saturday around Regent's Park from 1:30. Info is on the Facebook page. If you're not on Facebook then pm your email so I can forward on details.

P.s. if any of you are really keen I do need helpers. I'm a final year PPH student and there couldn't have been a worse time to do this with a dissertation to do and other stuff!

Hope to hear back from a few of you.

It's great hearing from people that goes to this uni. I have a phone interview with them this week (not going to lie, I'm a little nervous). I'm applying for a MA History and moving to the UK to study this has been a long time goal for me. I'm still waiting to hear from the other unis I've applied for, but Birkbeck was the first to respond to my application
I'm 22yr old from West Sussex... Applied to the 4-year part time Media & Culture course starting October 2015.

Does anyone know if there is a free gym

I'm super excited and really hope to get in!
As a student at Birkbeck, you can join the Energybase Health and Fitness Club at the University of London Union, next door to Birkbeck in central London, at the student rate.
Membership of Energybase includes unlimited use of the fitness suite, swimming pool - the largest swimming pool in central London - and classes. Fully qualified instructors also carry out inductions, fitness testing and programmes at no extra cost. In order to join, you need to become a member of ULU.

I'm starting a Journalism and Media BA in October. Good luck with getting in.

I start in October! Would love a heads up on the Law Faculty and the course so far!
Waiting for October to start is horrendous.
Does anyone know more about housing options for PG students and what area this Birkbeck located? (I have started doing research on housing to see what the expenses are like)
