    Complaining
If there's a few things going on at your work that you're not sure should be happening, how would you go about it?

There's nothing major going on that would mean where I work could be shut down, but they're asking me and two others to do things that we're not trained to do, and as it's a nursing home, it comes down to a lot more than just us, it involves the residents also.

    Cheers.

Refuse to do it unless you've been trained. I have a feeling that you wont be insured for activities if your not trained. Thats how it works in the home my mum works in.

Cheers. I've been asked to lift residents (not with hoists, but something else, can't think what it's called) on my own. I'm only a supper girl, my job is to serve and feed residents. That's it.

Then definatly dont do it. Theres a risk to you and your back plus if the resident is injured through lifting and theres an enquiry you could be liable. You need to take a course and get trained before you lift.

I've taken a manual handling course but a one hour, two hour course doesn't really qualify me, does it?

I've got some sort of certificate and we were shown various hoists and equipment, but if it's not in my job description and not what I'm paid to do, should I really be doing it? I don't feel right doing it, despite having had the course. It was only one/two hours all together, on one day. I don't know if that's the norm though.

If your trained then its fine and you can always talk to the manager and tell her you feel uncomfortable doing the lifting but its likely that if you've been trained then you'll be expected to do it.
