I presume that if you fail the AST having told the AFCO that you want to go NCA, but you have passed for other trades, you can start considering them straight away. I don't know what happens if you fail the NCA course once you are in training.


If you fail AST for aircrew, you are open to investigate alternative immediately assuming you are eligible. It is an airmens entry test after all, and aircrew is now longer seen as anything different at this stage. Just has the highest score requirements.

You may however find that the trade you are interested in is closed, and thus you may have to wait for it to open before progressing.

The first AST scores are valid for 12months. You can re-sit after 6 month. The second test scores remain valid for 5 years. The second and first scores are combined, so you get the highest scores in each part (VR, NR, SP etc)... so you should always get a better score.

You can only take the AST twice! Then that's you done.
