ddr2 is expensive as it isn't demanded much anymore, well more than ddr3 -
Re: Before buying PC please ask our advice first! This is an outdated pic. I've now got a 7850 GPU and a Cooler Master modular PSU so cable management is looking tidier. But you get the idea.(Original post by itsmyname)
Cheeky request but can you post up a pic of the inside of yours? Just so I could see what it looks like

What's it like on the other side... With all the wires feeding through, does the panel close properly? -

I don't like windowed cases. My case is on the floor to my left anyway so would be pointless. It's fairly packed with cables. In that shot I put up, it was pretty messy and difficult to put the panel on. Once everything was aligned it went on okay and didn't really press outwards much. Now I've got a modular PSU and a fan controller. So basically all the 3pin fan plugs are all in the 5.25" optical bay behind the fan controller so it's much less messy behind the mobo tray now.(Original post by itsmyname)

I'll need to get some more pics up I suppose. -
Re: Before buying PC please ask our advice first!Cables can be managed very (relatively) easily in any decent case. No real excuse not to sort it out.(Original post by Iqbal007)
whats that for
it seems like there's too many wires on my case which look hench -

I know I should, but it feels a weird putting them all through the back, mine is a decent case, but barely use the cable management. I was thinking of just putting the unused cables into the hdd trays

Re: Before buying PC please ask our advice first!
I need to get a Microsoft Office suite for Uni.
Software4Students and Microsoft's own student store sell Professional Plus and University versions for £70.
Is it possible to buy these or similar suites for a cheaper price while at uni?
(If it makes a difference), its the Windows versions I'm interested in. -

It seems cambridge engineering department can get 2007 for free but no mention of 2010 so not sure about that.Last edited by Intriguing Alias; 21-07-2012 at 08:01. -
Re: Before buying PC please ask our advice first!Do you think you'd be able to fill up a 3TB drive?(Original post by flown_muse)
There's an offer for Seagate 3TB HDD for 112 right now on ebuyer. Worth it? -
Re: Before buying PC please ask our advice first!I'm gonna say probably not(Original post by Killjoy-)

Earlier I found out Software4Students & Microsoft were selling Office Professional 2010 for £40, but that deal expired in April.
I think I'll wait and see in October as its unlikely to increase in price. -
Re: Before buying PC please ask our advice first!Yeah... What can I say, I'm a sucker for the phrase 'SALE!' Oops!(Original post by Killjoy-)
Well there you go then
£112 - price of smaller HDD could be put towards something else.
I've had a 500GB drive since 4.5 yrs ago and I haven't even filled half of it. -
Re: Before buying PC please ask our advice first!
Have a hyper 212 and its spinning about 500-600 rpm, this is too low and my mobo doesn't like it. Should I just change the min threshold or is there a way to get it spinning faster? I tried setting it to turbo but it didn't really have any affect. My CPU is idling about 28-32 degrees

Re: Before buying PC please ask our advice first! Why doesn't your mobo like it? That temp is low, mine idles around 45 degrees(Original post by Chow mein)

If you placed your cpu coolers fan wire into the correct places and not using molex converters.
You would have to enter your bios, and I believe hardware monitor to find the cpu fan.
Don't you also have a utility for your motherboard so you can change things while logged in, where you can make your own defined speed. -
Re: Before buying PC please ask our advice first!Temp sounds normal for an Intel chip.(Original post by Iqbal007)

Chow Me in - what do you mean your motherboard doesn't like it?
