    Thanks guys, very helpful!

I've downgraded the motherboard since I highly doubt I'll SLI any time soon. Got the EVGA GTX 670 FTW (after hours or reading about cards) instead of the Windforce.

Changed to low profile RAM, ditched the sound card and picked up a good gaming mouse to go with it all. Very happy with the parts I've chosen and all the reviews, came to around £1370 in the end.

Now... has anyone got any links teaching me how to put all this stuff together?

Next few purchases will probably be extra little bits, decent speakers, headphones and a 2nd monitor maybe.

P.S. What games would be good to test out my PC? I'll probably be getting BF3 and I've played Skyrim quite a bit already, but I wouldn't mind getting it again if it's a big difference from the Xbox version?

    http://www.wikihow.com/Build-a-Computer
    http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/assemble.php

    They're all pretty helpful.

As for games, BF3 is excellent I think (So much better than any COD game), Skyrim is excellent on PC - I have it on Xbox and PC and I prefer PC due to the mods, so much more customization. If you can get it for sub £20 I'd buy it again for PC. Although it got some stick from some people, I really like Crysis 2 - well worth it

That's the best one, skip to the bits you need as it's a full tutorial into many areas.

BF3 on Max, Crysis 2 on max, Crysis 3 will be out soon, Metro 2033 which is very intense.

    I3 then and no gaming.

    Under £400.
    I forgot about you loool

Have you got a Windows DVD?
Are you replacing a old desktop?

    (Original post by RapidValhalla)
Hey team - I'm looking to buy a new desktop as mine is now beyond obsolete. I'm ideally looking to spend around £550 (but obv the cheaper the better). I particularly want to be able to run games like DayZ with ease. I used to be fairly tech literate back in the day and was happy to construct my own builds but that was a long time ago so any help would be massively appreciated.

    Cheers all.
You should really be looking to build it, same video as above have a look, it should bring back some ideas into building.

would that tutorial suffice in you building it?
I can help with the parts.

Firstly why HP G series only?
Also you should pick a laptop based on your needs and budget....so what is the purpose of the laptop and the usage?
I just like the overall look and the battery life of the G series HP Laptops
The purpose is for mainly doing work and assignments for Uni on the laptop, but also for some recreational usage (e.g. watching dvds/ripping cds etc.).

Thanks for replying by the way!

    monitor x 2: http://www.ebuyer.com/260589-samsung...-ls20a300ns-en £66.99
    Mouse & keyboard:http://www.ebuyer.com/226938-xenta-b...-3518b-hm-3301 £10.99

Motherboard: http://www.ebuyer.com/351614-gigabyt...rd-ga-b75m-d3h £59.40 not sure if you want this motherboard, it's a small mATX one and doesn't offer much features as a full ATX.
CPU: i3-2120http://www.ebuyer.com/254978-intel-c...-bx80623i32120 £90.12 could swap it for a amd quad core.
    Ram: 2 x 4gb 1600mhzhttp://www.ebuyer.com/195372-kingsto...1600c9d3k2-8gx £29.98
    PSU:XFX ProSeries 450W http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/c...450s-u2b9.html £38.38
GPU: did you want any sort of graphics card?
    Case:Antec 300 http://www.ebuyer.com/143854-antec-3...761345-08300-3 £39.99
    HDD: 500gb http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005GOTMR...SIN=B005GOTMR2 £47.98

£450.82 in total not including Windows OS, read my comments, the main issues are the motherboard, power supply, cpu and graphics. Are you happy with it?
    This the one suggested?

I think I'm happy with building it myself. It's choosing the components that I'm struggling with really. As I say, I've been out of the loop for quite a while and I'm really not familiar with components these days. Any suggestions for a build to run games like DayZ?

I chose that case because it's known for good value for money and being excellent build quality and for keeping temps down, this one is also good and comes with a few fans http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/c...ov-prowle.html.

All power supplies have a fan in them, they even have heatsinks inside them, it's for keeping temperature low.
Are you happy with a mATX board?
I could get you a full ATX board around the same price http://www.ebuyer.com/363618-msi-b75...oard-b75ma-p45 personally this one is better overall.

Depends on entirely what you want to use the graphics card for?
And whether you'll go with the cheaper case?

edit: Doesn't include Windows by the way, you got a dvd already from a past computer?
Whatever's cheaper to be honest. I don't need a fantastic board, nor a fantastic graphics card. I'm trying to keep it under £400 remember. That case for £30 looks good.

And no i don't have windows...

£80 that's the cheapest I can find Windows 64bit, you probably need to cut back on the motherboard to something cheaper and use the integrated graphics.

Question, is it best to get a case with a PSU built in or are they usually crap and i should get one individually?

    Yes.

The one I gave there is pretty good, it'll set you back about £360, though I was thinking about changing that motherboard for a cheaper, but that motherboard should do ok.

in the meantime you can just use the onboard graphics, or get a cheap AMD graphics card which surprisingly people have gotten some decent games to work on medium settings.

They are usually crap generic ones, if your looking at the cheap ones, the good ones are much moreexpensive and only cooler master does it.

Something with a 80plus certificate from Coolermaster, XFX, Corsair, OCZ, the others would be out of your price.
Hence that xfx 450 watt which I linked before would be good.
