Yea i know, very annoying! If its standard 300W - 350W im gonna need a new one arnt I ? At least a 400W ?

I tried tracking down the manufacturer webby, but they seem to only sell them without PSUs!

Any PSUs that you can recommend in the 40-60pund bracket or do i not need to spend that much?

Try Seasonic and Enermax, theyre reputable, reliable brands. Theres a Seasonic 350W on ebuyer.com for under £40.
will 350W be enough though?

I have been looking for specs for the gfx and cpu but i think at the moment im too tired and my ineptitude is kicking in

Even my dualcore system with a high-end graphics card didnt draw more than 235W measured at the outlet (allowing for efficiency, a good brand 350W PSU with enough 12V amps would be sufficient). This was when overclocked, I should add

Its only really Pentium D\Prescott systems, SLI, Crossfire and the like that need 500W PSUs, or if you're an extreme overclocker.

Youre first mesh loink doesnt work, but
http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=PRODUCTVIEWPAGE&USG=PRODUCT&ENT=PRODUCT&KEY=116787

is far better than the dell pc.

Looking at that, im worried by the fact mesh allow you to pick a 7900gt using the stock 250W PSU. I know its completely irrelevant to Chris.

That ones even better. Probably what I'll be getting  .

Im afraid you are mistaken, an e6300 would destroy a single core 3500+. An e6300 performs similarly to an x2 4600+
I challenge anyone to find a cheaper 7600gt. Must be brand new and in stock. Ill also allow x1800gto and x850xt cards. Mid range cards basically.

Out of those two: the Acer system from Comet.
Because its got more RAM? is Acer a good make? iv tried looking up reviews on the internet but they seem to specialise in laptops. im really sorry if this seems really basic but i really don't have a clue. i dont have much money to spend on a computer but i don't want a piece of rubbish thats going to break down.

Well, the spec is fairly similar, apart from hard disk and ram. But I trust Acer more than Packard Bell.
Really? well thats good to hear. especially since my dads just found out that we can get 10% off in comet cos of his job or something. bargain! anyway, thanks for ur help. hopefully i wont be on here in a few months with loads of problems!
2 Dell AMD Desktops have been rolled out. The better of the two:

http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&kc=305&l=en&oc=D10E16&s=dhs&sbc=%20dimen_e521

Poor value as usual though. However, they do make all of dell's pentium D desktops obsolete.

Core 2 makes both obsolete

Use these 2 to look at performance

I think the first link is more recent.
Me again

I've been thinking about PCs for too long. It's only a week and a bit before I leave. Crikey. Anywho, I was ready to order my dell desktop last night (P4 3Ghz, 1Gb ram, 64mb integrated graphics, 160Gb HD, 17"TFT, DVD-RW £434), but a bit of an argument resulted in the order not being placed.

However, this may have been for the better. Overnight, Dell has introduced a nicely priced AMD system (Sempron3400+, 512mb ram, 64mb integrated graphics, 160gb HD, 15" TFT, DVD-RW, £339)

I have a soft spot for AMD (the machine I'm typing this on has been going strong for 6 years), and believe they're generally better (without getting into duo territory). Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, there are processor choices:
AMD® Sempron™ Processor 3400+ [Included in Price]
AMD® Athlon™ 64 Processor 3200+ [add £11.75 or £1/month1]
AMD® Athlon™ 64 Processor 3800+ [add £29.38 or £1/month1]

Would you say it's worth upgrading to one of the athlons? Or should I just forget the whole thing and stick with the pentium . I need to order today really if it's to get here before I leave.

Thanks

You could upgrade to the 3800+ (as its a fair price) but I suspect it will not make much difference for your use.
So ive narrowed it down to a couple of systems :

http://www.powerc.com/ps/code=B-M2V&act=gpage/1//ss3cdlkIxbKjnM./////&G124=111-1111&G155=DDR2-512&G112=EN7600GT&G156=AM2-3800&pid=H14281095

3800 X2
7600gt 256
With the cheaper case

or this one

http://www.goldenelectronics.co.uk/item--BA0301-A8V-VM-Deluxe-PC-AMD-Athlon-64-bit--BA0301.html

3800
1gig ram
200 gig hdd
7600gt
G5 laser mouse

Which is best? Im wanting a gaming rig that can also double up as a CAD work station.

Im leaning towards the Goldenelectronics one, but is the 939 socket made obselete by the AM2 ?
Reply 1119
I'd go with the latter system (Goldenelectronics).
