I was watching the ceremony for the commonwealth games earlier.
As I watched the fireworks soar up, they turned into loaves of bread, and then they exploded. Not a good idea really.

Rubbish idea.

For the most part, this ******** about leaving a "legacy" behind never actually works. Try going to South Africa now and sitting in one of their beautiful new stadiums during a football league match; you'll soon notice the ground is practically empty.

How can that/has that helped anyone?

In the short-term, yes, because of tourism and the thousands of jobs it creates.

Apart from economic issues there is also health issues. There was an article i read that South African prostitutes actually prepared for tourists, i.e tents etc. They were actually looking forward to the event just for the sake of "business".

You could imagine all the cases of STIs, they not only spread the diseases to the tourists but in turn take the disease home with them to potentially spread it on futher.

However, if there is more money from tourism, then the government could invest that money into sexual awareness schemes etc :s-smilie:
