How big is the campus, acres wise? I have heard different figures, or how long would it take to walk around the whole campus? Just wondering

You can download a PDF map with a basic scale here: https://www.uea.ac.uk/about/visiting-staying/campus-map#display=&fullscreen=false&lat=52.6168&lng=1.2410&zoom=15

It really depends what you mean by whole campus. The main bit, which has most of the buildings that most students use day to day, is about 2100mx2100m ish. But if you include the lake which is part of campus and you can walk around, that bumps it up, and if you include the village and the parts at the hospital, the sports fields in between and Earlham Park (opposite the sports park) its much bigger.

How is the nightlife? Some people say its good and ive seen other articles saying its dead, is it busy on a night out? I live in a small town so dont know what to expect from a city but I am hoping for busy and decent nights out

There's a night out pretty much every night of the week so all timetables are accommodated. The LCR (on campus) is most people's favourite night and is Tuesdays/Saturdays, Tuesday night most people go to the LCR and there's a fancy dress theme of sorts which depending how easy it is to do differing amounts of people will follow but it's by no means compulsory and you won't look out of place in normal clothes.Wednesday night is also very good as it's sports night so starts on campus with all the sports teams together and then ends up in a club in town which is really cheap and quite small so has a really good atmosphere. Thursday you can go out in town with a choice of clubs although this is probably my least favourite night to go out on as it's quite expensive (relative to the rest of the week). Friday night is once again town, normally at a club called Mercy which is the biggest club in Norwich and pretty cheap and has a good mix of locals and students. Propaganda also runs at the Waterfront which can be a good night out and also pretty cheap so definitely worth it if that's your sort of music. Saturday night is the LCR for 99% of students and is the same as Tuesday just without the fancy dress theme and is the busiest night of the week and definitely mine and a lot of other peoples favourite night out. You can also go to town but the clubs are really expensive and mainly for the locals as the clubs become a lot stricter (dress shoes/heels, no big groups of boys etc) so I've never bothered with that when the LCR is as good as it is.

I hope that wall of text has helped!

Definitely thank you! Not including pre drinks how much are nights out? I take it student nights/nights at the LCR are cheaper than say a night in town with locals as well? Also heard about Prince of Wales Road, are there lots of taxis until early in the morning (clubs shut at 3am where im from but we usually hang around outside until around 4 so guessing in a city it will stay lively for longer)? and how much would a taxi cost?

As explained above, there's plenty going on in Norwich. Here's just some suggestions for what you could do in the area:

My estimate is pretty bad as I'm incapable of avoiding the bar on a night out, I have too many people I do rounds with to have a cheap night. Entry ranges from £3-5 and drinks vary quite a lot too (double vodka mixer £3-5.50 for example). If you don't buy many drinks in the club you'll easily do every night for under £15 all in, I probably spend average £25 per night.

Student nights are cheaper than nights out with local nights yeah, The LCR is the cheapest in general and Mantra the most expensive of any of the clubs. Taxi's run 24/7 as far as I'm aware so you've no problem getting one back, iirc one company has a thing where you show your campus card and the uni pays if you don't have any money on you. A taxi from town to campus in daytime is £6-6.50, at night I think it's slightly more but I'm not entirely sure, I think it's £10 ish and obviously people carriers are slightly more. It's also walkable in 1-2 hours after a night out which I've done a few times as taxi's can sometimes have a long wait, especially on big nights (I know of people told they'd have to wait >2 hours on halloween for example) although I'd only recommend that once you've got to grips with Norwich.
Does anyone have any recommendations for driving instructors in Norwich?
As I'm local, I won't be staying in student accommodation. Will this mean that I'll miss out on things eg, making friends, nights out and socialising in general. Will people have already made friends before?

There are plenty of other ways to make friends - events in fresher's week, your course, and societies. You'll likely find you end up hanging around at friends flats a lot too, especially before nights out. You might have to be slightly more proactive about it but plenty of people do it and get on just fine

As kpwxx said, you shouldn't miss out, you just need to put in a greater effort. Don't be afraid to approach people if your on your own, join societies/sports clubs and go to meetings. If you are doing a high contact course like a Science then people on those courses tend to bond with each other due to the amount of time they spend together. It may seem at first like people have already made friends, simply because they tend to stick to flatmates as they don't know anyone else, but friendship groups do change as the year goes on. And maybe reach out on facebook and find others staying at home too, that way you know others in the same boat.

I agree with everyone else in the thread, just make sure you allocate time to socialising. If you rush straight home after lectures or seminars it will be more difficult than if you set aside some time to socialise with people on your course, or if you attend clubs and societies, etc
Does anyone know how much membership for the Bio society costs?

Definitely recommend bringing a suit along too for the BIO christmas ball organised by BIOsoc- definitely one of the best nights I had at UEA  tickets for that are upwards of £35
Not sure about permits

There's a society fair and sports fair during freshers week and again in second semester- you can sign up and pay then :h: Definitely recommend BIOsoc *
Students aren't normally allowed a parking permit, no. However the university allows those with extenuating needs, including those with caring responsabilities, to fill in an appeal for a parking permit, as per here https://portal.uea.ac.uk/documents/6207125/6492864/Student-Parking-Panel-Appeals-Form-2013.pdf/e64cc91b-0bc5-4272-ab92-28b6992e1190. It might be worth contacting student services for advice before filling it in so they can clarify exactly what evidence they accept e.c.t

Afraid if they refuse your application I don't know what the options are.

To answer your question about sports, anyone can become a member of a sports club. Within each club they have different groups from beginner upwards so you can just play for fun if you want. To join the actual teams to take part in matches with other universities you need to be selected- each sports club will likely have trials a few weeks into the start of term so they can identify freshers who are good at the sport.
