Is University compulsory nowadays? Is college just as good?

I was wondering if I should go to university after i'm done with college. I left my school in june, and started college in september, however, my course is only 1 year, and i'm wondering what to do after. I will probally stay on to college another year, but not sure if I should go to univeristy after that, and if it is really important now for getting a good job, or if college is just as good?

I see that lots of members of the student room go to university, and that most of the people I know that go to college go to uni after. I'm not sure if uni would be worth the money, and that I really need it, is it really important nowadays?

It's not compulsory, no.
However a uni degree in subject x will always be better than a college qualification in the same subject. (I think)

Well i'm doing animal care in college, so i'm not sure if it would be much different in uni. I'm also doing a diploma, which it's importance I don't know, is there any way I could do a degree in college, or is that just for unis?
