Re: How hard is the Theory test?Precisely this.(Original post by Glen_Nichols)
Two weeks, one hour a day. I found it difficult and worrying.
YES, it is largely common sense and some of the questions are ridiculously simple, but common sense will get you 25-35/50. You need to learn it to pass it well.
Learn what they are looking for on the hazard perception. I found that brakes lights on the car in front were deemed a hazard, I only found that out through practising.
Good luck
Also, the fact that clicking too early will score you zero, and trust me, you always click half a second too early.
You'll learn and generally get much better with hazards with practice. It's the only way to understand them.
Make sure you click, atleast twice but not simultaneously and not too often. The best thing about practicising on the CD is that with time, you'll learn to stop hazards early and click when you need to rather than unnecessarily, thus, reducing your risk of rhythmic clicking.
Don't under-estimate the test, practice well and put the hours in, just to be on the safe side.

Re: How hard is the Theory test?
i passed like last week

i had the cd which is sooo helpful since i don't learn very well from just reading i learn from practice.
i revised the road signs first.
then i just did looads of practice theory tests, at the end of each test i went back and clicked on the ones i got wrong and clicked "see hint" which would tell you the rule you are meant to be following. i then re-did the question. so if this method applies to you, just keep doing it until you get all the questions right (the questions are basically the same on the cd as in the actual test).
for hazard perception, i found this reaaally tricky whereas others find it easy. so i'm going to tell you how i got the hang of it to try and help you. if u have the cd, (this is where the cd becomes really helpful because you can't practice hazard perception from a book) at the beginning it tells you "you will be disqualified if you click too many times" which led me to not click ENOUGH when i was practising. the trick i found is the click first if you see anything that COULD be a hazard, then carrying on clicking a few times if it carries on (and then of course if it actually is a hazard lol). for example, if you see an old man crossing the road in the distance then click for him because u don't know if he will develop into a hazard. if he disappears, then stop clicking but then if he stops in the road or something then carry on. the amount of points you could get for clicking decreases the longer you take to detect a hazard so it's best to click before you even know it could be a hazard. the only reason you would get disqualified is if you click constantly.
good luck, hope i was some help and that made sense!! -

Still waiting on my provisional pal! haha
Are there usually long waits to book the theory test? I have heard driving tests can have waits up to 6-10 weeks and I'm hoping that's not the case for Theory.
Anyone recommend any decent theory books?
I can't remember having to wait too long for the theory, maybe a couple of weeks. Get it out the way early though, it'll show your instructor that you're keen to learn. -
Re: How hard is the Theory test? The questions are pretty easy, the only thing you need to learn are the stopping distances etc. but you NEED to do hazard perception. It's hard, but easy to pass if you practice. Buy a cd rom, most good book stores have them.(Original post by thecdon)
as title asks.
How soon would one be able to pass the test from scratch? I have a decent theory book.
Cheers
