Re: Primary Early Years Education 2011 - Official Thread
I apllied on September 8th for Primary education at Anglia Ruskin, YSJ, Chester, Derby and Plymouth Marjons.
Then I realised id sent my draft PS and couldnt change it cause im an individual applcant
so no send backs..
Anglia Ruskin have rejected me because of it. No one else have replied. However theyve all accepted a seperate updated personal statment.
Its now Jan and still no interviews, feel like a rejection. Im soo gutted because I really wanted to go this year! -
Re: Primary Early Years Education 2011 - Official ThreadHi,(Original post by im1190)
hey
i thought i'd write because i'm applying for primary education 5 - 11 at UWE, Plymouth and Brighton, and education studies at Bath Spa. I've just had my interviews for UWE and Plymouth so if you want to anything just let me know
I have an interview at UWE on Wednesday and was wondering if you could tell me a little about what to expect from the interview. Its a group interview and we have to present a poster on the first teaching standard. Was yours the same? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, am very very nervous! Thanks xx -

hiya!
just wondering what the oxford brookes and brighton interviews were like?
i have an oxbrookes one on the 1st and it says i have to teach something that interests me to the group. what kind of things did other people teach?
and what questions do they ask?
I'm so nervous about it!
Oxford brookes- One girl showed my group how to play lacross. I think two girls taught us games (likes ones theyve played on school experience) and another girl taught us about twins as she was a twin and so were a lot of her family. I was made an offer...i taught about healthy eating using a quiz. Using props is usually a good way to engage the group and interest them. (they were a lovely group and it was fine-the tutor who took us was also lovely and he interview me also with another girl from my group) Questions included the obvious...why do you want to teach, what experience do you have. I also think he asked what i had read lately/do i enjoy reading. cant member any others sorry.
Im not the best person to ask about brighton, but when i did my interview i did a single interview with a primary headteacher, a group task-showing i could work in a team and listen well and then an english task, it didnt seem that hard tbh.
Good luck! x

I've applied for primary education with qts at brighton, oxford brookes, birmingham city, manchester met and durham.
I've got interview offers from oxford brookes on the 1st of feb and birmingham city on 15th dec, but had to change the Birmingham city one because i was away on the 15th december.
does anyone know which are the best sites to look on for primary education news etc? i don't know where to look!
it came each week and i'd highlight and circle key stories in it!
you can probably pick up a copy in a newsagents but it has FE and Secondary news in too -
Re: Primary Early Years Education 2011 - Official Thread
Hey All,
I am have to admit I am getting rather nervous though it has been less than a month since my application was sent - officially went on track on 11th Dec 2010. I have applied for Primary Education at Durham, Manchester Met, Derby, Hull and Sunderland.
How long did it take for everyone to hear back from interviews? I guess I am starting to get a little jumpy about it all. I left my previous university where I was studying nursing because it was not for me and I really would like to do teaching as it was there alongside my passion for nursing, but I did not have enough experience at the time.
Good luck to everyone!

Re: Primary Early Years Education 2011 - Official ThreadNursing does seem to go along side teaching for a lot of people, even for myself i picked teaching instead of midwifery.(Original post by RachyKins)

If you sent your ucas and were on track by the 11th i wouldnt worry that youve hardly heard anything back because of the christmas holidays and everything. I sent mine off in december and heard back from between 4days and about 2 weeks. Id say youd definitely get something through by the end of next week at least. Don't worry

Re: Primary Early Years Education 2011 - Official ThreadHey, I've applied to Mancester Met also. I've had interviews at UWE, YSJ and Edge Hill and a rejection from Chester! However I've not heard a thing from Manchester Met, and my application was sent on the 11th October, so try not to worry about hearing from them yet.(Original post by RachyKins)

Re: Primary Early Years Education 2011 - Official ThreadPersonally I hated my YSJ interview! There is so much sitting around, it's a joke. You have to watch two long presentations and there's loads of breaks inbetween which really doesn't help. You do a really short maths test and have to write an essay for the english task. Then they slpit you into groups (of around 6) and you go to a table, on the table there is a bag and in the bag is a stimulus. We had pebbles but some people had a key in theirs. You have to discuss how you would use the stimulus in teaching. You then arrange a time for your individual interview at go and do that at your allocated time. The staff at the university were really rude to me. The questions were mostly about what you've learnt from your work exp and also about current educational issues, so I'd know one or two if I were you.(Original post by tabby_girl)
hello, can i please ask you what happened at your york st john interview? like what questions were asked and what you had to do please
it would be a great help
thankyou xx
I hated it because there was so much sittng around and the staff were dead rude, and I didn't know what to say for the interview questions but you might be fine, best of luck!!

Re: Primary Early Years Education 2011 - Official ThreadHey, sorry its taken a while to relpy. I thought my UWE interview was the best that I've been to. You watch a presentation about the course and they you are split into groups. One group goes to do the literacy task and the other goes onto the group interview. The literacy task is an essay, it was about praising children I think, you have about 45 minutes to complete it in. The group interview is in groups of about 4-6, and you are interviewed by a university tutor and also a local headteacher. First everyone presents their posters and then you are asked questions as a group discussion, just make sure you give your input, the questions aren't too difficult. The interview is really relaxed and the staff are lovely.(Original post by jldicks1)
Hey!! I have an interview at UWE on the 12th January, and i would love to hear how your interview went there, so any advice or tips for my interview would be highly appreciated. Thanks :-) x
Best of luck
P.s if you have any further questions or would like help with you poster then just quote me. -
Re: Primary Early Years Education 2011 - Official ThreadMine was similar last year, all you seemed to be doing was waiting around, if you get an interview I'd recommend taking a magazine or something, I hated waiting around for my individual interview last year.(Original post by Hannah124)

Re: Primary Early Years Education 2011 - Official Thread
For my Birmingham city interview i have to talk about an important aspect of teaching. What kind of aspects do you think they mean?
I was thinking of behaviour in the classroom. But again, i'm not entirely sure if that's the kind of thing they mean...
can anyone help? -

Hi,
I have an interview at UWE on Wednesday and was wondering if you could tell me a little about what to expect from the interview. Its a group interview and we have to present a poster on the first teaching standard. Was yours the same? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, am very very nervous! Thanks xx
Of course! Sorry if this is a bit late by the way but maybe you'll see it before tomorrow :P
First we just registered, handing in our certificates and passports just for them to check them. I would say about 30 people were here, which can seem quite a lot when you all want a place :P We all went over to the lecture theater where the co-ordinator of the course went over some things about the course itself and the day.
Then they split us off into groups for the interviews and tasks and such. The interview itself was in a group of about 6, and it started off with the presentations. Seriously, everyone interprets the standard and what we are supposed to put on the posters differently. The poster itself is of less importance I think than the way you present. Have a clear way structure to your presentation - practise at home what you're saying
and be as confident as possible but of course they do know you'll be very nervous.
Then it was just questions to us as a group. We went around and each gave our answer. The questions were like 'what made you pick the 5-11 or the 3-7 route?' or 'what do you think you could bring to a classroom or school' - just pick something and show you're passionate. There is no real right or wrong
The literacy test was on another standard. Again, no real right or wrong, just show some understanding of it from your teaching practise or even your own experience as a pupil/student. They are mainly focusing on your writing rather than just content.
Hope you have a nice day and let me know how it goes. Sorry for blabbing on too!

Re: Primary Early Years Education 2011 - Official ThreadHey sorry about my late reply(Original post by jldicks1)
Hey!! I have an interview at UWE on the 12th January, and i would love to hear how your interview went there, so any advice or tips for my interview would be highly appreciated. Thanks :-) x
Interviews are in groups of 5/6, and there is one tutor from the university and one headteacher from a partner school interviewing you. For me the poster was the hardest part - trying to be confident when I was so nervous! Be confident they like it - oh and practise your speech at home
Just write about your understanding of the standard - when I was there it was clear that everyone has interpreted it differently. You poster can just be headings or information or pictures, totally up to you on that one! It's more about how you present it. Just be confident and have structure to what you want to say. Is your poster about high expectations? People in my way did posters on expectations for behavior, mine was more on goal setting and targets, other people did it on generally their experience. I think all are valid tbh!
Then they asked questions to the group and we went around the group answering. Things like 'What made you choose the 5-11 age group rather than the 3-7?' (or other way around) and 'what could you bring to a classroom or school?'.
Let us know how it goes, good luck!

Re: Primary Early Years Education 2011 - Official ThreadHey(Original post by chazzehchaos)
i've applied for education studies at bath spa too. have you heard anything from them yet?
Yeah I've got a conditional offer! It's not even high grades, I think I could get CCC at A2 and get in because I have a B at AS.
My one was international education studies though - it's mostly the same except some modules are focussed on different countries and their education systems. There was also early years education studies, or just education studies - just a few modules different I guess on all of them! Which one did you apply to?

Re: Primary Early Years Education 2011 - Official Threadwhat was your debate about? I am really scared as im dyspraxic and kinda stupid when it comes to writing. oh god; im really worried about this interview. I REALLY WANT TO GO BRIGHTON(Original post by mld93)
the written task is a debate you have to write about your opinions on and the interviewer asked me loads of really hard questions to answer
i hope i did ok because i really want to go to brighton!

Re: Primary Early Years Education 2011 - Official ThreadHiya,(Original post by Uni2010!)

Hi, I have my Northampton interview tomorrow. and i have to give a max. 5 minute presententation of an Literacy topic or issue that i feel would be of particular interest to children. No idea what it means. any ideas?!
Teach the group something you would teach children- use props quizes questionnaires. keep them invovled. teach them something that you think will keep them interested.
so no send backs..
