Warwick: snobby/ antisocial?

I reckon there's more inverse snobbery. I don't understand why it's a bad thing to have been privately educated and don't get why some non-privately educated people want to avoid those who have been. Like seriously wtf? You don't really get people from private schools seriously stressing over whether or not they'll meet state educated people...why is it the case in the reverse that state educated stress over meeting privately educated/being around privately educated.

Surely whatever the mix happens to be it only adds to diversity which makes for a more interesting campus?

Lol:biggrin:
I am definitely still applying, I just wanted to find out other people's thoughts.
I've already been to an open day, I went to one last year and I didn't meet any friendly applicants in the maths department  some were actually quite intimidating. I'm applying for MMORSE which is very competitive so not really expecting an offer anyway lol.

Good luck with your offer. what are you applying for?

Aw that's strange :s-smilie: in fact one of the nicest people I met was a MMORSE graduate :P

I'm applying to do Maths  G100 ^^ And i'm sure you'll get in  GD LUCK!!!

I'm not saying its a bad thing to be privately educated. I just know of someone who went to warwick and hated it because everyone was 'snobby' and made him feel inferior for going to a state school so I wanted to know other people's experiences. I personally don't have anything against privately educated people and wouldn't try to avoid them.

So much rubbish.

All depends on what kind of person you are, plenty of heavy socialisers here especially Politics :awesome:
Maths undergrads don't have a lot of time to be social tbf, they're working from the word go.

As far as snobbery goes, this place is 80% or so state school intake, so I don't think snobbery is really a problem.

I'm in Rootes and have yet to have a problem with anyone being snobby. Everyone's friendly, we went out almost every night of the fresher's fortnight and I've had some awesome nights. It's different to the city unis, but I thought that'd be obvious. I went to Imperial last year and what I've experienced so far this term doesn't compare to how Imperial was, the people and make up are completely different.

If you think there's lots of anti-social, international students at Warwick, take a train journey to Imperial College for the day.

warwick would need another 100 years before it could even be considered near that of oxbridge.

For those of you who think that the most important thing about a uni is how long it's been around, please heed the wise words of student77. League table compilers may also like to consider their gross oversight in not having 'time since establishment' as one of their weighted criteria. Student77 would not make that mistake!

Ill be honest there are lots of private/grammar school kids some ive met have like 20/30 people from their school coming. God knows where 80% state school intake came from LOL!

Despite what other people may say that they are normal and everything really with the kind of life theyve had you dont have anything in common with them apart from small chit chats inbetween classes. Its especially crap if youre like me muslim and dont drink and despite what other people may say 'oh you dont need to drink blah blah' really its no fun hanging with drunkards while your sober because you dont understand them or their jokes.

However on the otherhand in cases like mine youll make good friends with people who are internationals from all over the world from kenya to yemen to kazakhstan everywhere and you will find they will be more like you and their stories and experiences are real eye openers and very interesting.

Either way warwick will provide with a top education and you shouldnt say no to that because you think people might be snobby or antisocial because unless your a retard youll find good people here.

They don't talk to people unless they have a double barrelled surname!

I'm sure there will be people there worried about the same thing though so it's just finding those people
