IMDB Top 250 films leaderboard - how many have you watched?

Whether you think cinema died with Hitchcock or only got good once Michael Bay started blowing up helicopters, this is the place where moving pictures are discussed.

    Ideally, yes.

I guess that could mean that i'm not very experienced at all, or that I'm just a dickhead.
    Or both

But cmon Phalanges, you seem like a real guru of film. Surely you must also feel a little snobbish sometimes?
I went through a phase when I thought my opinion was always correct and that everyone who disagreed was ignorant as I'm sure everyone does, and while that still creeps in from time to time I'd hope I didn't come across as snobbish very often. I also went through a reverse-snobbish phase where I thought that anyone who listed some obscure indie that only ten people watched as their favourite films and decried all of Hollywood was a pretentious arse. But then my tastes are pretty westernised; my three favourite films were all made in Hollywood. What I'm more interested in now is why people like or dislike the films they do than any desire to force my likes and dislikes on them, it's much more enjoyable to have conversations that way and people don't think you're a pompous ass. :p:

I do like being described as a guru of film though.

Yeah, it just dropped off the Top 250 the other day.

But high rated films are not necessarily on the Top 250 as IMDB uses a weighting system and only counts the ratings of regular voters.

That is why there are few films with 8.3+ rating not on the Top 250.
    What's a regular voter?

Like once a month or more along the lines of xyz films rated?

IMDB does not say what exactly a 'regular voter' is but there is speculation is that it is people who have made over 1300 ratings and therefore watched a lot of films/TV shows.

If you are a keen film fan and watch a lot of films it is not too hard to see 1300 films, I have seen just over 1100.

i have i think 700-800 ratings on IMDB.

yes i have seen probably quite a few more films than that. but who remembers a movie you saw at night 4 years ago?

its not like i rush to imdb after every film i see on tv. just once i purposely watch, not ah its on tv lets watch it ones.

855 ratings minus say 25 series makes 830 movies rated on there. i think that should be enough for me to be a regular voter.

    17/250

IMO Armageddon, Titanic and The Devil's Advocate should all be in the Top 250!

Need to update mine, I've seen 72/250 now. Still a long way to go! That isn't including ones that I've just seen bits of though.

39/250. Not a lot, but there are many good films not on the list.

I wonder if an icheckmovies.com thread would work. Perhaps a thread devoted to the '1001 Films to See Before You Die' list?

I refuse to see the rest on the list. I can say with a decided confidence that my viewing experience won't change from seeing Ratatouille, The Princess Bride or Three Idiots.

I started following the official? list on icheckmovies.com; the IMDb Top 100. I've seen about 400 from there, and it's definitely a lifetime achievement kinda thing.
    Watch Ratatouille and Three Idiots.

Ratatouille only if he/she likes animated films. It was on of the few animated films I didn't hate. The only one I like that I remember right now is Ice Age. But the latter ones are worse than the first even.

Three Idiots is brilliant, so should watch it to get to 230!!!!!
