I've been working at asda for a week now and most days I have 3-4 hour shifts but I dont get the lunch break thing. I usually work from bout 10 til 2 and i'm worried i'm not gonna be paid properly coz they'll take off a bit for lunch but we haven't really had it explained. If you dont have a lunch break what do you do to make sure you get paid the proper amount? Any help you be really appreciated.
Hahaha you're not due a lunch break!!! You have to work 7 hours for a lunch break. Anything over two or three hours just gets a break, butif you have such short days then you might not actually need anything.
i know i dont get lunch breaks i think you misunderstood or maybe i wasnt very clear. we were told that between the times of 10-2 a half hour lunch break is automatically deducted from the time you work even if you dont have one and because i only work 4 hours i dont have a lunch break so i wasnt sure if they would deduct the time anyway because of the time during the day at which i work. so then if i work 4 hours they may deduct a half hour so i only get paid 3.5 even though i dont have a lunch break. i'm not actually sure if that's made it any clearer!

No you don't get it taken off you. What that means is that if say you are in 9-3, you would get half an hour taken off you because you are in during them times. They normally give you a 15 minute lay way as well, so if you clock out after quarteer past you may get it taken off.
ok thanks for clarifying that i wasnt really sure if that was what they meant or not and i obviously didnt want a half hour deducted if i'm only working 4 hours anyway.
Aaaaah Righty, Sounds Erm Interesting LOL....... I Shall Google Map It....
Did Ya Mention We Dint Get Them Handbook Things? Did Ya Meet Anyone From Thurnscoe?
I Had A Text Off Someone From Thurnscoe Earlier... Got To Go To The Store On Weds At 9am For 30 Mins..... Duh Duh Duh!
Yeah, someone said we get em when we start work at training cos they've got none left.
I'm right nervous for the store opening tomorrow; bet it's gunna be right busy too I've only had half an hour on the tills and that was ages ago so can't really remember much self checkouts is ok tho.
There's some really nice people who work at Thurnscoe, I was with them all week training
I applied for asda as did my daughter she got the job, 18 hour contract , I had my interview a few weeks later waited for an emal which said we were impressed with you blah blah and had the job great i thought got contract in the post saying temporary until oct 3rd? no mention of this in interview etc as was applying for a new store which isnt open yet....is this allowed and why woukd they do this ?so she has a perm contract at same store i have a 6 week contract and both have to do training on the same days!! should i bother?
I would say only bother if you really need the money. I worked for ASDA for about 6 months and although I have to say it was an OK job/environment, you really are worthless in the management eyes as you are just a number, it does not really matter if you're there or not as there will always be someone ready to replace you.
Guys, I have been invited to the Asda Magic ) I only applied like 5am in the morning last night! < -- if that makes sence lmao
And i woke up with an email inviting me..
I originally applied for a 24 hour part time contract as Sales Assistant in the Chilled Products department, how different is this to normal Sales Assistant jobs? What will I be doing differently due to my different department?

Guys I just realised this is for HOME SHOPPING, although the job description is for floor shop assistant.. on the title it does say "Asda Home Shopping - Chilled Products"
And I just checked the location of my booked Asda Magic Assesment centre, and its their Home Shopping branch
how long do i wait after the closing date b4 i get a response?
It varies, once I got a rejection reply after 2 months and during summer I got interview offers at different stores two weeks after closing date (got the job) and week before closing date (didn't go to it cos I got the job at another store).

I think it more depends on what kind of a store you work at. I would imagine your scenario in one of the massive supercentres on an out-of-town industrial estate. I work in one of the newly-opened supermarkets where we only got around 20 colleagues in a local community and must say it's better than my part-time jobs before.
Oh god im so confused :<! I applied for a Home Shopping job in Frozen Foods department.. and my job description and title says Sales Assistant... and my decription goes on about how i will be working with customers/tills be friendly in store etc.. but then now my Asda Magic assessment is at the Home Shopping warehouse.. im so confused ((
Ok thankyou I also found this out when I asked one of the managers although i started mid july and i was told i would get paid for my induction and i was speaking to some other people who started at the same time as me and they got paid on 30/07/11 but I didn't :-( so I found my payslip and i opened it and it just said 0 everywhere!! Do you think there's any way they can pay me this money this month? like by cheque because they have not paid it and i know pay day is very soon!!! I'm finding it ok actually, can get abit boring on the checkouts but it goes quickly and it's giving me money so im happy, although some of the managers are rubbish!! how are you finding it?
