Re: The Working At Asda Thread(Original post by huntthehaunted)
Tell you section leader / manager / person who does the Rota say why they are
Pretty good about it I couldn't get in till half 8 on suns so I was the only one starting that late everyone else started at 8 you might have to stay a bit a later . Mind you I'm outside of fast ( work at a service point whilst being seasonal we debate my hours weekly) so yea talk to whoever does the rotas
I hope they can arrange the shifts so that i can start an hour or so later, I have no problem working the days I've given just its near on impossible for me to start at that time as I stay an hours public transport away from the store, it won't be for long as I am ready to sit my driving test. Surely they will understand. -
Re: The Working At Asda Thread(Original post by fiona_x)
Forgive me for being completely stupid, but what letter? I don't really know my manager or section leader that well as it's always so busy when I work so it may not be as easy for me. But thankyou for your reply!
who gives you your hours? see them they will make time to chat about it ask them when you see them if you can have a chat manager or section leader, think mine is a bit diffrent at the time I got on really well with the section leader. They will tell you to write a formal letter to give your manager , but its best to have a chat to make sure their happy with it and then send it. dont be scared if they look busy to ask to have a chat. Ive done it to the store manager before. then you get a letter to sign and send back and its done. hope this helps
quote me again if you have any questions as ive been seasonal a few times .

Re: The Working At Asda Thread
I have a 1-1 interview and a work trial on monday evening.

If I get the job, I'll be contracted for about 20 hours a week, and I quite fancy trying to build in some regular activities around that (i.e. evening classes, volunteering, etc). What is the likelihood that I'll be able to work the same days/times every week? I've worked in places before that have a constantly changing rota and it makes organising life outside the job a bit tricky. I've put my availability down as completely flexible most days, as I don't have anything organised as yet.
Also, will I prejudice my application at all if I ask this question at the interview? -

I'm on a weekly rota which stays the same and then you can also take on overtime if offered it. Sometimes you'll be given a rolling rota which is 2, 3 or 4 weeks of different shift pattens which you cycle through.
There is no harm in asking what sort of hours to expect, no need to mention your out of work plans.
You'll most likely fill out an availability form which gives you the chance to apply for the hours and days you would like.
Unless you're seasonal you'll be given a fixed rota of either weekly or a rolling weekly.
Once again all the best! ^DB. -
Re: The Working At Asda Thread
Quick question,
I'm starting in June sometime after my exams, after being offered a checkout role in April. They still don't know when my best welcome will be (I phoned them a week ago) and so this means I can't give notice to my current employers. Also, when will I find out shifts? My parents are booking a holiday to Devon and so I'm hoping to be able to go down with them, only if for a couple of days if between working. I filled out my availability form and gave them dates I wasn't available ie prom, results day, concerts... -

Re: The Working At Asda Thread
Need advice on what to do regarding asda vacancy. Basically, I applied at asda about a month ago, done the magic assessment thing and they sent me an email saying that they would like to offer me a position but they have nothing for me. They did say that if a vacancy came up they will inform me. However, a couple of days ago another vacancy came up at a different asda branch near me. If I apply there, can I tell them about this so I don't need to go through the magic day and just get a job since I was successful in the interview I did before? Sorry for this essay, just need help.

Re: The Working At Asda Thread
I applied for a job as a checkout assistant and I did got through to the one to one interview. At the one to one interview I was told that I've got the job and that I would have to come in for some training, but I wasn't told at what time I need to be there. I was told it would be this weekend though, but I don't know what time to get there. Should I go to the store and ask what time they want me in or should I call them? I don't really know what number to call though :/
-
Re: The Working At Asda ThreadGive them a call and ask for the People Manager or just ask for someone who deals with recruitment, they'll be able to give you more info. Just call the main store number and wait until you get through to the Customer Service desk.(Original post by Sem193)

You can find the phone numbers in the ASDA website. Phone and speak to reception - ask for training and recruitment. My store's T&R team work funny hours so you may have to try several times.(Original post by Sem193)

Re: The Working At Asda Thread
Sorry to ask a lot of questions but how many hours am I allowed to work at week. I'm 18 and in full time education. Also, can I change my work hours? I'm a seasonal colleague btw. I was told I had to work from 1pm-9pm or 10pm and I didn't want to do it and I told them, but they said I had to. Can I still ask if I can have less hours. I still have a lot of exams coming up and need to revise, but they don't seem to realise that. I said I could work from June 21st and yet I've already had 2 shifts. They said the job would be flexible, but so far it hasn't yet. Sorry, if I'm just talking crap. I just don't want to work 8/9 hours on Saturday.

then you have to fill in an EU form sorry your classed as a adult
Have you told them you have exams coming up and thats why if its not your contract you dont have to work it. If it is your contract then ask them if they will help you shift swap. also they have an exam leave scheme ( well they did a few years back). ask your PM about that. It is flexiable but I find its give an take e.g I did a night by myself on the dept to get a week of to go on hol when we were told there were to be no holidays
hope this helps.

Re: The Working At Asda Thread
I got offered a job today in ASDA in the Process Department. I don't actually know what that means i'll be doing, can anybody help?
Also, it was mentioned that my contract will be seasonal, does that mean I'll only be working 10 weeks a year?! can I do overtime outwith these 10 weeks? -
Re: The Working At Asda ThreadYES. I can help, finally. I am a process princess myself (not our official title but still(Original post by sioolovesyou)

aha)
On process there are a few elements. There is investigations, which means when you go in the night staff will have cages of the over stock from the night before, you scan it, check the on hand is right, and stack it on the top stocking shelves. Also you send off on the scan gun to send less or whatever. You'll get to learn all the buttons pretty quick.
Then there's price change, though most stores will ave 1 or 2 colleagues within the team who work on these.
And then there's gap chasing and picking. after investigations you go round the store looking for holes/gaps in shelves where products are missing or out of stock. U either print the labels if the gun says we have none out back..or you add it to a pick list from the warehouse. Then you go through the pick list at the end and put the stock back out.
There's more to it than people think but i like it as it keeps your mind going and mkaes time pass quicker. On check outs id be so bored! -
Re: The Working At Asda Thread
I need to give my letter of notice in at some point this week, but I have no idea what to write (i'm moving out of the area for family reasons) or who to give the letter to? Do I give it to the people manager? If anyone could give me some advice asap because I have to go to work in an hour!
-
Re: The Working At Asda ThreadI would give a copy of it to your line manager and your people manager.(Original post by Shippy)

What to write in the letter. Something like this:
"Department Manager & People Manager,
It is with deep regret that I hand you my notice in accordance with the 1 weeks required notice.
Due to moving away from the area and family reasons it's no longer suitable for me to work at this Asda store.
I thank you for having me work for the company and have enjoyed my time here, leaving will not be an easy task.
Please contact me on NUMBER HERE to discuss this further.
Kind Regards,
NAME HERE. "
Something like this will be fine, they'll probably have a formal meeting with you to close your employment with them.
All the best for the future! -
Re: The Working At Asda ThreadI don't even know who my department manager is tbh hahaha, i'll try and find the people manager today and just informally tell her i'll be leaving and how to go about giving my notice and who needs what etc.(Original post by davidbain)
