Beer in the kettle...
In my quest to create the ultimate dirty pint I realised that the warmer it is, the more the aromas come out and the worse it tastes for whatever victim has to down it. Initially I would add a bit of hot water to the pint which would raise the temperature. However the problem with this is that it doesnt actually heat the drink that much, and also dilutes the alcohol content.
So it would be better to heat beer up before adding it to the dirty pint. In the absence of a microwave, the best way to do this is with a kettle. Has anyone ever tried putting beer (or any other liquids apart from water) in a kettle? Does it damage the kettle?
Cheers. -
Re: Beer in the kettle...
You'll lose alcohol content in the boiling of the beer?
And adding water doesn't "water down" the alcohol content. If you have a pint of beer, and add half a pint of water, then you're still drinking the same amount of alcohol in the pint of beer. I read somewhere once, that you're generally worse affected by alcohol if you drink a 1:1 alcohol to dilute drink (but it was vodka in that example) -

Re: Beer in the kettle...But as a dirty pint is, by nature, in a pint glass, adding half a pint of water means you only get half a pint of beer.(Original post by linkdapink)

OP - Beer? Why aren't you using wine for your alcohol base? -

Although if youve got a really old scaley 'un - that might make the pint that little bit less enjoyable as required!

Re: Beer in the kettle...
Unfortunately the place where we usually make the dirty pints doesn't have a hob - the only heating device is a kettle. Good point on the loss of alcohol in heating. I will have to be careful to stop the kettle boiling too much. I don't want the pint to be actually hot, just warm enough that the concoction steams all the flavours right through the nostrils.
I'm liking the thought processes here though. Maybe this should just be a thread on how the make a great dirty pint.
Using wine as a base is a good option, and indeed wine is almost always added to the mix.
Sugar and salt in the beer? Never tried that before but it sounds good, bring out the flavour even more! As for piss and vomit... I'm glad I'm not your mate!
To make the pint curdle I usually use Baileys rather than milk, again don't want to lose the alcohol content. The interesting thing is when it's warm, the baileys curdles and then permeates the entire drink rather than floating at the top. This means that you have to kind of eat and drink the concoction at the same time all the way to the bottom. Delicious!
