Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftYou're so witty.(Original post by ewww)
why do u need to lift weight, life me another sandwich. -
Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftWhat youve said makes a lot more sense, to be fair to her she could have just been simplifying it for people to understand.(Original post by Smack)
Without going into any biological details, it can be seen empirically that anaerobic exercise will produce better fat loss results than aerobic exercise, and athletes who perform sports in which anaerobic fitness is extremely important (e.g. sprinting) look a lot leaner than those who run marathons and do aerobics.
Your teacher is forgetting that HIIT produces a stress on the body that takes a long time to recover from, and all the time whilst this is happening your body is losing fat. Aerobic exercise does not.
And it's also pretty silly to care about fat loss during the workout; you don't worry about building muscle during a weights workout, do you? No, the muscle is built after. The same with HIIT and fat loss.
I'll always have faith in anaerobic training anyway, it gets better results and isnt as boring! -
Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftCurses, thought we had a fitness first (lol).(Original post by Powerlifter)
Sorani and I trained together a few times.
Infact I picked her up from the train station becuase I am such a kind chap.
And Nun and I were in the same place with Lozza who is technically a woman.
My bf just got a note from the postman to pick up a parcel, think it might be a foam roller he ordered. I want to use it on my abs cos they hurt so much from Monday(Original post by Break To Build)
Not at the minute, I just joined a (pretty good) new gym and my shoe size makes things difficult sometimes. I'm going to experiment with my new foam roller for a while first

Yeah, sadly shoes aren't a cure-all(Original post by aivi)
Yeah the most annoying thing is knowing you have the power, it's just just lacking technique & coordination.
Just chatted a bit afterwards, didn't actually train together. I get the feeling, that I prefer training alone, because then I actually get things done and don't get sidetracked :P
The shoes are nice, sturdy, though the heel isn't really as high as I thought (hoped) it might be. Realistically I knew they wouldn't make a massive difference, but I was kinda hoping that they would make all my problems go away
Squatting was nice, first proper squat session in several months (not really counting the couple half-arsed efforts at the gym in Brussels). Went up to 55kg, which felt okay. Also did some paused ones and ones, where you go full -> parallel and hold -> back down and up. Front squats at 40/45/50kg as well.
Then tried some jerks, and almost dropped the bar on the first few, because of the heels tipping me forwards. After more reps, things felt fine, went up to 40kg. I suspect the biggest difference might come in oly lifting... we'll see.
Also got tipped by some guy at the gym that the club in Bethnal Green run 10-week courses at only £45. Since that would include proper coaching, individual programme and pretty flexible training times, it sounds pretty awesome.
Wasn't that the club that you trained at, Becca?
They do make a massive difference in oly though, if only for ankle stability which trainers totally lack.
Yeah I trained at Behtnal Green. Everything I've heard about the courses there has been really good, and I loved training at the club, even though we were randomers we were getting encouragement from the other people there. I could tell that if you were there a lot it would be a very beneficial atmosphere. They had iron powerlifting plates and stuff as well as 5-6 platforms and loads of big 2.5 and 5kg plates etc. Also about a gazillion barbells.

Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftPretty much this I think. I think aerobic slow&steady cardio burns fat (and muscle glycogen) during the exercise, but doesn't produce such extreme post-workout effects like HIIT.(Original post by Smack)

While this still puzzles me, like Smack said, empirical evidence proves clearly that HIIT is the way to go (though I think slow state cardio like walking/hiking has some value).
Besides to get similar results with chronic cardio and HIIT, you would have to sacrifice a lot more time and energy for the former one to work. While we all love to train, we don't want to spend hours and hours on the threadmill/road/bicycle etc. -
Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftYeh, and not forgetting how our bodies compensate after aerobic workouts with regards to breaking down protein...(Original post by aivi)

Realistically, aerobic vs anaerobic during exercise is one very small part of the picture. And although it's 'true', at least in the process of exercise, applying it to such a long term and more complex 'goal' (reducing body fat) isn't a good analogy.
I graduated in Human Biology, with modules in Metabolics & Physiology of Physical Activity - know how much detail of substrates for energy we went into? Pretty much nothing more than: There are 3 substrates, we need a supply of ALL of them at any one time due to the simultaneous processes of creating ATP.
And people wonder why I lost enthusiasm. -
Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who Lift
really annoyed with my OH atm, he said he would make breakfast today and he made a omelette but he made me a 3 egg one and himself a 5 egg one which means im well down on the protein today, he let me have 2 slices of bread when i could have had an extra two eggs
-
Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftThat was breakfast though, surely you've had all day to make up the protein?(Original post by tinktinktinkerbell)

I've fallen out with bread; I think it's partly psychological due to recent carb (just wrote crab and confused myself) discussions, but I've been taking sandwiches to work. I've not done this in ages, usually have houmous and Ryvitas or meat salad w/e, but I've honestly not come out of work feeling so damn hungry as I have this week. Been and bought some houmous for tomorrow

Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftBless her, she's overweight, doesn't know what she's doing, doesn't seem to have plan, doesn't accept advice, doesn't take criticism and can't seem whether to decide if she wants to cut or gain mass. Leave her be, she's got enough on her plate.(Original post by GQ.)

Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftActually I think if you read her post you will find that she hasn't.(Original post by Break To Build)

Where are you training this year brohan? -
Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftLOL. Exactly, a slow cut = a girl wanting five eggs in the morning.(Original post by burningnun)
Actually I think if you read her post you will find that she hasn't.

I'm training at Liberty this year because I live on Mansfield Road now, I still have access to Raw for another week though from last year's membership.
Liberty is pretty good, several Olympic bars, plenty of plates, heavy dumbbells, a trap bar, a power cage, chalk friendly, deadlift friendly, all the machines a bodybuilder could ever want and some pretty serious boxing/mma stuff. I might still train at RAW occasionally depending on how my timetable breaks down because I'm still based in Clifton.
Are you at RAW again? -
Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftNah I train at the Sports Centre now. If you're in the first team of a sport (lol like American Football could support more than one team) they let you go in this converted squash court with 3 bars (all straight and spin), 2 power racks on platforms, a crappy GHR but I can't really complain, bands, chains, DBs up to 50, plyo boxes, my dip belt, some kettlebells and foam rolling stuff. A few other things in there too but those are the the main ones. You get in there on Bronze membership and it's sweet.(Original post by Break To Build)

Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftRolly Polly Pudding and Pie(Original post by tinktinktinkerbell)
look im on 2000 cals a day either i have 5 eggs for breakfast or i make up the cals later on
Had only three eggs and then did cry
When the girls came out to play
She complained on TSR as she wanted to be a man!

They do make a massive difference in oly though, if only for ankle stability which trainers totally lack.
