Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftTake into account that I've always been active and quite strong, and had been training boxing for half a year by then. Plus, I weigh 65kg, so probs more than you(Original post by skunky x)
40kg to start? Crap. I was struggling with the 15kg bar! So useless. Hoping to do the 20kg bar at least once on my own for everything this week. Got a session tomorrow, and hopefully one friday morning- I'm still beginning so I don't want to over do it.
Though I probably will. Stupid hard headed me!
I'm really itching to go do some lifting, but I probably won't have time until Friday, since I've got uni stuff or other training every day. -
Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftTbh I highly doubt I did start in a better position than you! I had never done any resistance training before. I used to swim competitively as a youngster (til I was about 16) and go running a bit, but when i started lifting last year I was very weak and unfit. I had just done 2 years teacher training so barely had any time to sleep, let alone exercise. If you lift consistently for a while you will make swift progress. Lift that 5kg dumbell regularly and it won't be long before you want 10kgs, and then 20kgs!(Original post by FelixFelicis)
Congratulations on squatting 85kg! It must be a huge motivating factor being able to see how far you've progressed. I think you started off in a better position than me but you were probably a lot fitter and stronger to begin with. I'm not going to lie, I used to think a 5kg dumbbell was really heavy. I picked it up and thought..what's the next one down and realised it didn't exist/we didn't have it haha. But that is no longer the case, which is something I suppose. I will try changing my training routine because I think maybe I'm getting a bit bored with it..Thanks for your help!
I do(Original post by Smack)
I don't think that British girls like to be called beasts or said to be beastly.
Keep training consistently and you will soon be at 40kg. Don't forget to spend time n recovery exercises too, though!(Original post by skunky x)

EDIT: still ill. Checked my throat and have loads of pustules, one is an attractive black colour
Going to the Dr later though.

Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftWas going to say if it had bicarb in it be careful not to mix it up with normal protein. Foamy mouth ftw(Original post by Becca)

Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who Lift
Never thought it would happen, but got my ass kicked by 3kg weights today
(was conditioning though)
Nike Training Club session, where we did variations of burpees, pushups, lunges, squats etc. for 45min non-stop.
Anticipating massive shoulder/back DOMS tomorrow

Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftYou've started weightlifting? How's that going?(Original post by HARRY PUTAH)
Went weightlifting club and got measured.
Me: "I'm 85.5KG roughly but haven't checked in 2 or so months"
*ding ding you are 89.1KG*
olympic coach: *lol*
How the **** did I get that weight? Must have been legs. -
Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftIts fun. Learning the moves and how they're put together to complete the lift.(Original post by Becca)
You've started weightlifting? How's that going?
By the looks of things I'm the most flexible and strongest one in this new wave of people.
The trainers like how my flexibility needs no work as I'm capable of doing whats needed but its just building up strength in those positions that I need.
My front squat is at an ideal weight to keep progressing as its 115KG but the 70KG coach (1 of 3) has 150KG front squat so I've got a way to go

Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftWhat kind of porgramme are you on?(Original post by HARRY PUTAH)

Ladies: I think I just found the ULTIMATE workout:
Well, the weightlifting one is just getting us into the learning curve but next week we will be progressing to around 50/60KG if those who are strong enough can.
My other routine is just strength building at a gym near me. Deads, front squats, back squats, dips, DB bench, log cleans etc. -
Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftWhy thank you! I have to look in the mirror regardless of where I do my biceps and I find it mega distracting. Once I get the go ahead money wise I'm buying some more Gym clothes and going more regularly. Still kinda nervous about going and doing my routine on my own.(Original post by Powerlifter)
Kudos on enjoying squats over arms -
Re: The Barbelles Society: Ladies Who LiftEveryone will be doing their own thing so I wouldnt worry(Original post by skunky x)
