post/undergraduate (?) studies in UK.for a Greek

hello. i am Greek. i am at the 6th year of studies and i will take my degree soon . so i search for my future studies in Surgery!!.and i got LOST.
i need your help cause its immposible to read everything to find smthing...

my goal is to do at UK an internship.
the problem is that i dont know who to ask and when(pefrore ii take my degree/after? should i email a professor or i search a vet colege website???)
i also dont know the Criteria so i can be chosen. is it congresses, seminars wih practise(CPD i think its called) , the degree, etc
is work experience a requirement for the intership?
my plan is to go to congresses, seminars, take my degree, do a semester practise here in Greece (university) and then ask for a "job" as experience somewhere that is recognized from RCV. and then ask for a internship.

so what i want from you is to:
critisize my plan. is it good? any corrections? suggestions?
to tell me the criteria for the internship and what should i do .
post any information for an internship, job, expirience to sent my app.
tell me everything you thing it might help.

PS. if you know somone or a better way to find out what i need plz tell it.

thanks in advance , i need your help alot..

Hi
Yes lots of us are vet students here! However I think your message has confused most people.....sorry!
Are you looking for undergrad (i.e. your first degree, Bachelor in the UK) or postgrad (i.e. after completion of your first degree e.g. Masters or PhD) studies? You say you will "take your degree soon" by which I assume you mean you will complete your veterinary degree (ie. take your final exams and qualify as a veterinary surgeon in Greece)? In which case you must be searching for postgrad opportunities. These are the Masters degrees available at the Royal Veterinary College in London (there are other vet schools in the UK by the way!)

http://www.rvc.ac.uk/Postgraduate/Masters/Index.cfm

If by internship you mean working at the university as an assistant then I would imagine you would need work experience, I would imagine a PhD (or be doing one at the uni) would also be necessary, but I can't say for certain. I couldn't find anything about "internships" at the RVC on google so I would suggest you email the admissions dept of the universities or perhaps the particular departments you are interested in (e.g. surgery, cardiology, large/small animal etc) and ask them for their requirements.

Hope this helps a little

the vet Degree in Greece is 5 years.
so yes i need postgraduate infos. i dont know why you are confused with the term internship. its practise (work). maybe in a university or at a private clinic. (its a term i read at the "must do" for an ecvs application.)
i dont know if it must be a PhD or just working somewhere without a title.
.so Yes i look forward an internship.
btw i like Bristol . so please , if u know, tell me any info about internships in bristol.
what your teachers say to you , that you must do if you want to do an internship in bristol (small animal, surgery) . what are the criteria? congresses? the bristols congresses? or what?
if you are steel confused plz tell it to retype

thank you alot

sorry, your post is a little confusing...

i assume you mean somewhere recognised by the RCVS rather than the RVC, which i think is what confused clair0511...

i don't really know anything about it i'm afraid, but if you're looking for an internship then some of the large practices have details on their websites about how you can apply e.g. Rossdale & Partners: Internships

if you're looking for somewhere in bristol why not write to some of the practices there or have a look at some websites?

Hello,
If you are aiming to do an internship after your veterinary degree, you will find them advertised in the jobs section of 'The Veterinary Record'. If your university doesn't have this jornal, you can access the jobs online too.
In order to do a residency in the UK you have to have a veterinary degreee which is recognised by the RCVS, so look up your vet school on the website. If it is not recognised you have to pass the membership exam. I think the Greek degree is ok, but you must check this.

Some internships will take students immediately after graduation, but some like 6 months or 1 yr of experience. It depends on the institution. Internships usually last for 1yr, but it is possible to find them for 6 or 18 months. If you are looking to specialise in surgery, a residency is likely to be the most appropriate pathway to take. You may have to do general practice for a couple of years after your internship in oder to be accepted for a residency, but again it depends on the institution. Residency positions (usually 3 yrs in length) are found in the Vet Record (as internships). It is during the residency that people work towards the ECVS exams and fulfil the requirements e.g. congress. Your residency placement providers generally have this all in place and help you to get the requirements organised.

I'm not sure which species you want to work with but it's worth having a look at websites of the following organisations: BSAVA (small animal), BEVA (equine), BCVA (cattle) - they organise annual congresses in the UK. If you keep your eyes open, you will see international congresses advertised in the veterinary journals and newspapers.

I hope this is of some help to you & good luck in your quest x

dear college
i know that readi ng websites , i would find something i like. its something that i do. but i ask you if you know anything that will save me some time and it might not be written somewhere.

I think that sending an email is not gona help me. What should i say? noone surgeon will help me couse i dnot know what exactly to ask. thats why i ask you. You , studentsa like me, can help me more than an e mail. A student here that wants to do an internship in Surgery knows more infos than a pdf informtion or an e mail.

i know that bristol, Cambridge have internships, pHd etc.. But i dont know what Criteria they have??? e.g. Bristol does seminars in surgery . Are these seminars a Basic criteria to be accepted from Bristol ??? this info isnt written nowhere. but a student at Bristol might knows better.

I understand what information you are looking for. Unfortunately I don't have the answer as I work in general practice. I'm not sure where you will find this information unless you start looking now at the job advertisements, so try this: http://vetrecordjobs.com/vetrecordjobs/vet-veterinary-nurse-jobs.html to start you off. If any interships/residencies are advertised it will give you an idea as to what they are looking for.
I am aware that Cambridge University take oversees vets for interships and I'm sure there were some at Liverpool when I was there, so that may be a starting point for you.
Sorry I can't be of any further help x
