Btw does anyone know if they are going to reimburse us for travel? I hope they do.
No, not to interviews, training or uniform pick up. There is free transport to all your shifts from inside Zones 1-6, or in the football stadium cities. (Oyster card for the tube I reckon)

Thanks. So we get special oyster cards then? I don't mind about training and what not. As long as they do it for the actual Olympics it's fine.

Has anyone in the C3 Team had their role specific training yet? In Venue Communications? I wonder if the teams are doing RST one by one. my brothers Language and Protocol RST was ages ago... Also, the accreditation day, for people who live nowhere near London, can you arrange it to be at the same time as one of your training sessions? Its a £50 10 hours train journey to London and back, and I'm not keen to make that just to pick up uniform and a security pass. (Haven't had an invite yet though)
    I'm in the C3 team ^_^

I haven't heard anything since I had my offers and went to the event at the Wembley Arena. Do you not know anyone in London that could pick it up for you and look after it until you need it?

On that note, has anyone else been given a really silly offer? I've been given offers for both Hyde Park and Box Hill (and apparently I have to do both or none). I live in very very north suburban London, so Hyde Park is fine (30-40minutes on the tube), but Box Hill...? What were they thinking?! It couldn't be any further away from me and still part of the London Olympics! I'm going to be on the tube for ~4 hours a day unless they actually do something to follow up my phone calls and emails!

Hampden Park is a venue for Olympic Football.

:eyebrow::eyeball: Now if a Londoner was given a roll in Scotland...now that would maybe give me a reason to be really cynical. Still, I'd be quite impressed if anyone has been given a more impractical destination than I have.

    I'm in York.

I've been given the Athlete's Village.

    212 miles away.

I think you're missing my point - living in York, I imagine that you actively chose to stay in London for the Olympics, you didn't make an application under the assumption that you would be commuting from York every day. You didn't sign up as Londoner who would be commuting every day. I on the other hand live in London, work in London, and as a result, would have expected to have been allocated to somewhere in London, or that wouldn't require 4 hours of travelling on the tube a day.

    Lol
I've been given the role to work at a train station(don't want to mention unless they track me) , directing people. I'd rather find a proper job I was hoping to work at stadium c some live action working at a station I would miss the whole olypmpics. Bun that. If I was a leader I would say that the games maker should all go on strike. Let's c what they do then.
Umm... why would Games Makers (aka volunteers that applied of their own free will) go on strike. I thought most people knew when they applied that it wasn't going to be all glamor and action. I mean yes it will be a little rubbish that you'll miss out on the sporting action but saying that you were hoping to work at the stadium in order to see some sport is not a good reason to apply. A good proportion of Games Makers even those in the stadium won't see any significant sporting action as lots will be working behind the scenes making sure that the games run smoothly. If you wanted to see some sport then you should have purchased some tickets rather than apply to be a Games Maker. My thoughts are the same as some others, if you don't want the role then reject it so it can be offered to someone who would like to have it.

Sorry to sound all preachy but I thought most people knew what they were signing up for. Sure there will be some roles slightly better than others but not everyone has got the role or venue they desired and most people have been fine with that as they just wanted to volunteer at the games.

I'm pretty sure you have to go in perosn to collect it, surely. Otherwise any Terry Taliban or Alfred Qu'aeda could pop in and pick up a pass...

I'm in Wimbledon, will be staying at friends on the right hand side of the central line, about an hour each way, oh well, don't mind the tube.

However I have been given a torchbearer slot 1 hour 40 minutes away from my house on a Sunday morning, and I don't own a car, and its a particularly busy day for everyone I know that lives anywhere near me... :/ interesting.

At least they cover you for transport costs. Luckily I love in East London so I'm about 15minutes away from the Olympic Village. You could always call them and see if they will pay living costs to avoid travelling 4 hours. It's a long shot but you never know. Tbh it's not the worst thing in the world since they will pay. It's just finding a way to pass the time.

One night in a hotel shouldn't be too bad should it? If you do go down that route you should probably book it now if its a place close to the village or anything like that.

Haha I didn't read the last part of that until now. What a stupid idea, you think everyone should go on strike just because you have to work in a train station? Doesn't matter if a couple of thousand go on strike. They have more. Lots more.

No its not, but its a bit rubbish, considering there are people who live closer to that slot who could have had mine, and I could have had their slot, which is closer to where I live.

Its a month before the games, and in rural wales so I think I can save booking the hotel for a minute! :P (And it'll be a hostel anyway probably!) It does help that Samsung have offered to give me a torch for free though...

Torch relay. Wales is.. far. You'd think they would think about stuff like that but I guess they don't care as long as someone does it.

Is there a liquid limit for volunteers working inside the Olympic Park? I want to bring my fruit juice to drink on shift.

Surely if you phoned way in advance and gave all the relevant documentation to a friend though?

Do you mean that you're going to be running with the torch?!?!

This is exactly my point regarding my situation!

You in person have to go to UDAC as you have to take photo id with you so a friend cannot go in fact you cannot take ANYONE else with you to UDAC as they will not be permitted onto the site!
