They specifically state that you can't. This doesn't necessarily always mean that you can't but I suspect in this instance it would be. Unless you had a very good case for switching roles, like they had done something wrong, treated you unfairly/illegally or if you were entirely unable to perform your role or something of a similiar nature.

@El Torres @mathsmusicfrench Thanks for your constructive comments guys

After a fair few phone calls I ended up having to book to go up separately which is annoying but not too bad as I managed to choose a day in June so the train tickets are still cheap.

Uniform collection for UK volunteers is 30th April - 9th June. If you've not had your Role Specific Training yet they can try to work them in together if you give them a call. I've already done mine so couldn't do that. Apparently Venue Specific Training happens in July so it was impossible for me to time it with that. Hope this info might b useful for u guys tho :danceboy:

Thanks for the info, glad you managed to kind of sort something relatively cheap.

I've yet to be offered anything (RST, VST, UDAC) so I will try and do it at the same time! Interesting to know

I hate that they've done RST on the weekends. Mines coming up on the 21st and the tube works could potentially screw me and everyone over. Not to mention that we have to be there by 7 or 8am, I forget which one. Bloody annoying. I might just go down when I have free time to see where this building actually is and how easy it is to get too.

Where is your RST? if there are tube closures the replacement buses are usually good.

25 Canada Square, basically the city group building. Just the whole getting up super early hoping to get there on time. I'll definitely get there early if it's not a nightmare. They hardly ever close the central line weekends so I'm good there but it's the jubilee line that is a problem. They put information up 2 weeks in advance of TFL so at least i'll have plenty of time when it gets released.

Actually thinking about it, I might already be up early because the Chinese GP is on at 6.30am, although I wont be watching it, just the time I would have gotten up anyway.

Is it the 21st April? the Jubilee is not closed on that day according to TFL so you should be fine. Or you could change at Stratford for the DLR.

Thanks for checking, I guess I could jump on the DLR as well. Cheers again.

    Shifts are out!

Not bad at all, working till 11pm on some days, well quite a few. Not a problem though. 8am-4pm otherwise. For the first week I only work Friday but I'll probably come in everyday to see who I can meet, spend the whole day trying to get in with some higher ups, see what I can get out of them with regards to potential jobs after the Olympics. Should be fun! Looks like most of my 11pm days are on the weekends so I presume it's part of a get everything ready for the following week or sort things out form the previous week.

    What's everyone elses like?

I've only just received my role specific training date/time! Apparently we are all receiving everything at different times.

Do you think that will be possible? I would say your accreditation will only allow you in on those days you are working, just imagine 70, 000 games makers wandering around getting in the way :zomg:

I was thinking that but would they really put in a complex system like that? I hope they don't anyway.

I get the impression you will only be allowed to come to the venue when you are working. From the Olympic's GM site:
A day in the life of a Games Maker....

    Check-in
You’ll then go to the workforce check-in, where your accreditation will be scanned – this will confirm that you’ve turned up on the right day, for the right shift!
I think we'll be sick of the place after a long shift anyway.

I also just got an invite to RST, its ages away, in July! Haven't got any shifts yet, as of when I last checked.

Oh fgs, that definitely sounds like we won't be allowed in outside of our shift hours. During the week my shifts end at 4pm, I could always hang around till about 7pm haha.

I presume we get our passes and stuff when we pick up our uniforms. Haven't been invited to orientation yet, which I presume teaches everyone where to go in the Olympic village.

I know it's a shame! Plus we only get access to certain venues so e wont be able to wander around the whole Olympic park!

What?! I thought once you were in you're in? Every section has a barrier then where you need to swipe your card. Fantastic..

As learnt frm training , the olympic park will have zones 1-6 I think, and on ur security badges it will state which zones ur allowed in, so u won't be able to wonder everywhere even though u may be a games maker with a security badge,

I think they'll be pretty keen to kick people out, with 70,000 GMs they aren't going to want them to hang around the hallways of the venue... I think you need to realise we are going to be fairly insignificant in the big picture, used and abused for sure.

Yup, UDAC = Uniform Distribution and Accreditation Centre, uniform and accreditation will be dealt with together.

Absolutely not. Orientation training?? As in the huge event at Wembley? It's just a session with about 10,000 others in Wembley arena where you watch a presentation and some videos and some live people talk to you in very general terms about the games and the part games makers will play. Everybody goes to Orientation Training, but not everybody works in the Olympic Village.

Of course, otherwise you could buy cheap tickets to the Handball and walk in to the Athletics 100m final???

You seem to be quite concentrated on the Olympic Park/Village. You do realise these are different places and not everything happens in them, in fact the majoirty of sports don't happen in the Olympic Park? Are you working there then? Venue specific training will be your chance to see around your venue and learn you way about...
