Of course the public can't walk around everywhere but there are different routes, and places created for staff and different routes for the public. Anyway if we can't wonder we can't wonder.

Also I'm not talking about wondering around to watch any of the events, I purely want to hang about to see who I can meet, make some friends, hopefully with some people that can recommended or have a little more power when it comes to getting me a job after the Olympics in their company. Long shot but it's better knowing someone then simply handing in a CV like everyone else. Since I'm working in the main press office I should be able to bump into some people so fair enough, especially till 11pm; around that time I reckon a few journalists will be hanging about.

Haven't got VST yet so I guess that'll be done a lot closer to the games. I was never invited to orientation training but it sounds like it was a big waste of time so I'm glad. Get RST out of the way first in 3 weeks time!

OT ,was a waste, but you have to do it, if you missed the big one, you get invited to see a film of it (!) RST is very good, you get to know the 'real' job you are going to perform (anyone doing Protocol?) You may find you want be wanted ' hanging' around if people are trying to work! VST is in July, but UDAC starts at the end of this month.

Ive got my shifts for transport and six of them start at 6am !!! guess what the tubes from Stanmore where I have arranged to stay wont get me there in time !!.Its a bit ironic but the tubes are not starting earlier for The Olympics but they are finishing later. I may be able to get to Wembly and get a connection though to Startford by 6am ....but it is going to mean a 4.30 start. I don't mind the shifts but I am a bit anxious that potentially I cant get there !!! Two of my shifts finish at midnight so that will also be tiring . However I am glad to have a role (Paralympics) I am still under review for the Olympics.
I kind of think why not do the same job for both games ...I have done RST so why not just do the same job for both Olympics. Has anyone else got 6am shifts that are giving them a headache

ps My venue is The Village which I am very pleased about ...if I can get there !!

i deleted my application, some of my shifts started at 5am and end about 12, some starts at 6pm end at 1am. i am not an idiot!!! count with some sort of clicker they give us, we as transport team do nothing if you actually think about it, if you went to training this is what they say,
    1) youll have to make sure the vehicle has the correct VAPP (vehicle approved parking permit) they then say dont worry well have paid contractors to make sure,
    2) youll be checking accreditation of the spectators (they could be athletes depending where you're located or just media,) they say " youll have to make sure you dont talk to athletes or ask for signatures, at the end our paid contractors will make sure everyone is on the correct vehicile.
    3) most of you will have a clicker where you count how many pple went on board, and record times when they leave.

standing outside for 7 hrs counting how many pple get on board r they mad or mental! 18 months of waiting for this lol ! they stress alot about paid contractors and staff. and how were at the bottom of the hieracy and the pple who gave this lesson said "were on top of you guys, but u voulenteers should be at the top" basically he was bragging!

took me 5 mins to write this lol, if you want the pack they gave us ill photocopy it and paste it here if it dont break no rules

I did the training ....I dont mind the job itself I kind of guessed it would be quite mundane I just dont know how to get there on time !!! gosh I thought I was early at 6 ...5am I think I would have been a bit taken a back at that one ...Im not sure where you would have to stay to get there for that time with no public transport. Im sticking with it but may get asked to step down if I cant do six of my shifts ....but I could perhaps do different times. Who will be able to get there unless they live east London ?

This makes no sense to me. What's your question?

Erm, this sounds pretty optimistic, but okay, good luck with it, its a good idea. I don't think it'll really go anywhere, but I don't have a problem with it, I realise you're not trying to sneakily watch events and stuff I just still reckon that they'll kick us out after we finish shifts. Also I think most the people you bump into will be other gamesmakers, not like media tycoons and people with huge social/political swaying power, but I don't really know anything..,

You should probably try and look for accommodation in East London or at least somewhere closer. Stanmore is at the end of the Jubilee line so it would take a bloody long time to get to Stratford station, which is the other end of the line. That's if it's even open. Generally the tubes open at around 6am.

Haha well it's worth a go. I don't expect to bump into the owner of any giant companies just someone who works in a company. Depending on who's there I could just make pleasantries with a few, tell them my name, give them my phone number. You never know, they'll certainly have better pull than I do. In fact just thinking about it, I should probably get some business cards made to make it look all official.. or something. I presume some GMs are taking time off work to do this stuff so there could even be a chance there!

You volunteered to volunteer for them! No one is making you work there! If you don't want to do it then you don't have to. You were warned when you signed up!

I don't understand why they would need a clicker all the way up to 1am.

Unfortunate if you have deleted your application over the shifts that you saw, as we have found out that there is a problem with the posting of shifts, one GM had 28 days of 12 hour shifts every day without a day off, clearly a big mistake, those in UDAC have had their shift rotas changed three times and they don't start work till the end of this month. So the rest of us are waiting for the 'correct shift timetables' to be posted

I was interviewed in November for a Spectator Entry Team Member role but haven't heard back from them yet. I checked my application on-line and it says still under review. Has anyone else from this role not heard back yet?

I had my interview in January. Do you know if they let you know if you're unsuccessful?

I have my shifts for paras including six that start at 6am don't mind the early shift but disappointed the tubes won't get me there on time from stanmore so I am looking around for accommodation (ha ha) or I can get a 4am train that will get me within striking distance for a 6am start . Still haven't heard from Olympics I interviewed for venue entry in Feb and got Paralympics transport straight away . does anyone know if you have less chance of getting Olympics because you volunteered for both ...or does it make no difference . it would make sense to me if I did the same job for both ...less training?

Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic Volunteers
"followmeup" you may still be successful, now that it getting closer, some 'picked' ones, have found out that they cannot do it, and are dropping out, we believe the drop out rate, was planned to be 10% (in fact its a lot lower, but even 1% is a lot when you are talking about 70k . So no 'unsuccessful message' have gone out. Even some of those not being lucky will be asked to go on a reserve list.

"Quirkymum" Tube time tables will be extended during games times, but I will be coming in from Mill Hill, the Jubeliee line will not get me there in time, but a bus to East Finchley, and then the 'overground' should do it , might be worth you checking it out.
and I too am awaiting to hear about this time for the Para, I agree that being trained and doing the same job makes sense.

Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic Volunteers
I am still waiting on my actual shifts for the Olympics to be designated so i can find out whether i can get to the Stadium from Cambridge where i will be staying with friends on time for my shifts starts.
I am due to have my TET (Test Event training) on the 21st April for the BUCS and even then i am looking at £130 pay out mostly on transport costs :/
One of my three shifts for TET is on a Sunday and as it stands i cannot get to the venue earlier than 10am due to transport yet my shifts start at 8am. The other shift clashes with my UDAC appointment i arranged so i didn't have to come to collect separately at the end of May! So at the minute i am only fully available for 1 shift only

I still also have my Venue training to undertake and i haven't done OT! Had my RST in March at city edge in Hackney.
I still have my Para application under review though!
