Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic Volunteers
Admittedly, feeling a little frustrated at the moment due to the lack of communication. I got my offer in December as a first responder on the medical team during the Olympics and I've attended both OT and RST in February but since then I've had very little contact from them, just some generic updates and a questionnaire. I haven't been invited yet to collect my uniform/accreditation nor have I heard anything about my shifts (although it's early days for that). I'm more frustrated about the uniform thing since loads of people have heard about collecting their uniform even those just doing the Paralympics and I've heard nothing. I know I won't be the only one in the dark but it's making me feel paranoid. Also I'm about to start a new job and I'd like to have a date soon so I can make sure I'm off that day.
Has anyone else with a gamesmaker role not been invited to collect their uniform and accreditation yet (especially those that have had their offer for a while and have attended OT and RST)?

I feel a little left in the dark too.

I'm a Games Maker at the Olympics, specifically a Stable Team member for the Modern Pentathlon.

And that is all I know! I've been to the Orientation Training...

and that's it. I believe my role training is in June? But nothing else yet, no shifts, no uniform.. it would be nice if they could give us some little clues!

For anyone who is still passionate about their role in the Olympics and just want morale support,(and lots of info) there is a facebook page with 770 users, it really helps to know if you are not the only one awaiting news of RST, /UDAC/ VST :-)

I haven't heard about UDAC yet, don't worry I think they're quite flexible on dates there anyway, I mean they're gonna want you to have a uniform once they've trained you.

I haven't even done RST yet, only just got an invite and its in mid-July, seems pretty late... :/

Wahay, anyother VCC team member, albeit at a different site...

Do you understand what we are actually doing yet?

I am still waiting on my actual shifts for the Olympics to be designated so i can find out whether i can get to the Stadium from Cambridge where i will be staying with friends on time for my shifts starts.
I am due to have my TET (Test Event training) on the 21st April for the BUCS and even then i am looking at £130 pay out mostly on transport costs :/
One of my three shifts for TET is on a Sunday and as it stands i cannot get to the venue earlier than 10am due to transport yet my shifts start at 8am. The other shift clashes with my UDAC appointment i arranged so i didn't have to come to collect separately at the end of May! So at the minute i am only fully available for 1 shift only

I still also have my Venue training to undertake and i haven't done OT! Had my RST in March at city edge in Hackney.
I still have my Para application under review though!
I live in Cambridge too and have yet to decide whether to travel down for each shift or try to find somewhere to stay in London - you're right the costs could be really high if we end up travelling down for every shift!

Trouble is they haven't told me my shifts yet

I'm a driver in the transport team and I've got my RST (to do my Advanced Driving Course!) at the end of April and my UDAC in mid-May, hopefully they'll start telling us about shifts then. If they are all close together I may try to find accommodation, but we'll see

I'm also a first responder for the medical team but have had my uniform invite for may. Perhaps you should email/call someone?

Are you going to be transporting all the athletes and the organisers?! Should be fun if so. I can also picture driving around on a golf cart in the village giving workers lifts.

I got a driving offer but couldn't go through with it, I would had my license by now but had to put a stop to it for health problems. Thankfully I got another role so it's all good!

Apparently it's not the athletes as much as that's a dedicated service (Athlete Transport or something like that), I'm transporting staff, journalists, members of the media, minor diplomatic personnel/politicians, perhaps minor VIPs, people like that. Get to drive around London in a BMW Mini Cooper, not exactly what I wanted but mustn't grumble!

Absolutely not, no way, not at all. Something to do with radios? When's your RST. My brother went to his RST for Protocol services and it is very useful apparently, clearing up what you're gonna be doing, and training you for it. Much more use than OT was...

It's slightly reassuring to know that I'm not the only person practically totally in the dark.

My RST is on 16 June at City Edge; when is yours?

The orientation training was almost demoralisingly boring... I was hoping to find out what we were actually going to be doing, as opposed to having a sequence of overprepared speeches on how great it is all going to be thrown at me (Eddy Izzard being the exception of course).

6th July.... at City Edge. Not leaving it too late or anything are they?!? Considering they've got to fit in some VST as well afterwards... Mind you actual Wimbledon is on until the 8th July so I don't suppose they can get in the venue till after that.

    I love rearranging everything *sigh*

Got my fingers crossed for getting a later date for my RST as all the ones they've offered me are in the same week as my exams...meaning I can't fit a 6am-11pm day (inc. travel...and cheap travel at that) in there anywhere!

Email sent to ask for dates after my exams...please be nice to me! Seriously though, they must realise the vast majority of volunteers will still be in education, so WHY put the most common role (event services) in the middle of exam season?

You say that, but at my orientation training (I went to the very first one, just for the record), I'd say that from what I remember, about 95% of the people there were middle aged or older.

True story. I think I went to the PM session on the first day. Genuine mix of people, young, old and middle.

Please quote me or I may not reply in future

I'm a T3 driver, why? It basically means I'm one of the 'general pool' who anyone with T1, T2, or T3 privileges can use

Why send them an e-mail? Phone them, it will be much easier. When I called to rearrange a date for my UDAC they were great and quite flexible (within reason) and got it done quickly.

Also, while you say that exam season is important, others will regard other events going on as 'important' in their lives, so they can't take it all into account. Plus as someone else said, at orientation the overwhelming majority of people there were middle-aged or older!

In other news, I just got my shifts, but they have started me in school term (I'm a teacher) even though my application said I couldn't start until 27th July. E-mailed and hopefully they will sort it. Lots of random shifts though, some finishing at 2am. Should be fun

Received a reply to my email and a rearranged date of after my exams, plus saved the cost of a phone call to an 0845 number, so no complaints from me.

I'm aware that there's a varied age group, was simply making a point about exam season.
