Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersI have to be honest although I missed the deadline for applying for the Games Maker roles, my experience has led me to believe that it appears to be more straightforward and process applying for the paid jobs with London 2012 than the voluntary jobs and even then ironically I would suggest based on the stats I've seen and heard, your chances of getting a paid job within L2012 are better.(Original post by kid992)
I have applied for a Games Maker role and to be perfectly honest I am pretty disillusioned with the process. I feel LOCOG are playing games if you'll excuse the pun. I applied 15 months ago for both games.I read there were 250,000 applicants for 70,000 roles and 100,000 people would be interviewed although how they weeded out 150,000 people given the application process did not ask for a CV is beyond me but so be it. Anyway when I got an interview in March I was pleased. In October I got offered a role at the ParaOlympics which I accepted. My application for the Olympics is still under review 3 months later and less than 8 months before the games why? It's totally uneccesary. I don't feel I can make any plans for next year because I don't know how much time I will require for the games and training which could start in February for a role I may not even get. I am sure I am not the only one who's patience is wearing a bit thin.
My inbox is bombarded by emails for paid jobs everyday at the games and I have started applying for these. If LOCOG can't decide if they want me to work for them for nothing a year after I applied I might as well apply to people who will pay me to work at the games. Worse for the games is with a 100,000 interviews for 70,000 roles they might well not have enough people to fill all the roles as many people will drop out the longer they leave it as said here some have forgotton they applied, others have been kept waiting so long they are not interested, many will have found paid roles at the games e.g. one of the 1000's of security roles they have only just started recruiting for, and the fact that LOCOG are leaving it so late to inform people that they may not be able to get all the time not just for the games but the training beforehand not to mention the problems of accomodation. If LOCOG don't get into gear they will have a staffing disaster on their hands and it will only be their fault. Even volunteers should be treated with more respect.
Try going onto London 2012 job (google it). Also G4S are hiring for security so you may want to look at that.
Working at London 2012 whether paid or unpaid is awesome but I'd certainly agree going for the paid one is better (obviously). On top of that you still get to wear the same uniforms (if you're into that kind of thing), you get a security pass which may give you far more access to restricted areas etc. than a volunteers pass and you're getting the best of both worlds; working at London 2012 whilst being paid for it.
So you might want to cut your losses and go for a paid job via the 2012 site. Although I was gutted to miss out on the Games Maker roles I was more than pleased I got this paid job. I'd go as far as saying I got a better deal out of it. -
Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersCheck my post on the previous page. Although it was for a paid job I expect a lot of it would apply for Games Maker roles too.(Original post by angelic03)
I have an interview next week for a games maker, is there anyone who's had their interview? Are there any tips? -
Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic Volunteers

As for the job process, I had a job interview (LOCOG) and wasn't too impressed with how they handled things. 3 weeks after my interview (they said I would know within 3 weeks) I contacted them, I knew that there were little chance of me getting the job but as I hadn't heard anything I still had hope. I was told the recruitment department was still waiting for a decision and I had to wait two more weeks.
What annoyed me the most was that I follow them on Linkedin, so I can see what new hires they've made in some positions, one of them being the role I applied for. So I knew before they told me, which sucks. It can't be easy handling all these applications and I think everyone at the Olympics are doing an awesome job, but as I don't think I was even close to getting the job, did they have to wait five weeks before they told me?
I know I sound bitter, but I really wanted the job.
But I’m going to continue applying for jobs as there are plenty of them and will be even more the following months. -
Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersIt should be in your profile at the games makers zone. And this is something you can look at before you accept the interview. And then in the confirmation email you should see it as well.(Original post by pyl11)

Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersThanks for your reply. I think mine is different, because it doesnt state it anywhere.(Original post by _EMMA_)

my confirmation just stated
SELECTION EVENT: Games Maker Selection Events
thanks a lot anyway -
Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersHmm, that was weird. If you have facebook, you can visit the Games Makers page (made by the olympics) or the games makers discussion page and ask if anyone has had something similar, might be better response there than here.(Original post by pyl11)

Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic Volunteers
Okay, I accepted the "exploding" offer for the Paralympics, ( had 2 weeks to decide). I decided that as they have no offered me for the main olympics, I would rather enjoy the actual olympics or do paid work & volunteer for the paralympics as I can enjoy both competitions!
-
Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersGood decision. Well done on the parlympics obviously sorry to hear you didn't get your original choice. Try googling London 2012 jobs and go on the site and apply. That's what I did after missing the Games Maker deadline.(Original post by ebam_uk)

As I mentioned before G4S are recruiting for 2012 security so you may want to give them a try. Not sure where you are based but I know the Manchester Sports Volunteering Bureau are recruiting for Olympic Ambassadors obviously for the Manchester portion of the games (Football really) so that might interest you (not sure if it's only open to Manchester residents, I think anyone can apply). -
Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersSame here, I go onto my events and it just says more info to come...(Original post by pyl11)

Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersTo be honest I am not that desperate to "work" at the olympics. It would be good to be a part of it, but it isn't the be all end all. I'll be in London anyways, but most likely watch the olympics from the comfort of my home... no stress of trying to work and commute to the olympics just to volunteer(Original post by Gridiron-Gangster)

Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic Volunteerssame but for the paralympics(Original post by makeasplash)
I've been offered a role as a "wayfinding team member". Probably going to spend 2 weeks on my feet pointing in random directions pretending I know where everything is! Oh well, I just wanted to be involved in it all
I'm glad I got a role, would be great to get the Olympics too, but I'm perfectly content with the current offer
-
Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic Volunteers
LOCOG have started emailing me asking me to apply for paid jobs when they haven't told me whether I have been accepted for a volunteer role yet so they are poaching their own volunteers! I think I might well end up with a paid role I just don't think there will be many volunteers left by the time they make their minds up.

Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersI could only do the actual Olympics because of time needed off work but I'm still super excited. Hopefully all the tourists will be in good spirits too to make it a good laugh. Now I just need to figure out where to stay(Original post by exam wizard)
same but for the paralympics

Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersYou can only accept an offer for one of them? I thought you could work at both? Because at my interview I only had the Olympics down, and my interviewer asked whether I would be interested in the Paralympics and I said yes hoping it would boost my chances of getting at least one of them(Original post by ebam_uk)
I am pretty sure I'll get an offer for the Olympics, but the offer for the paralympics is an exploding offer. Therefore if accept the paralympics offer I will not even be considered for the olympics.
Why can't they give me both offers then let me make the decision, otherwise I could take a gamble and possibly not get the olympics offer.
. Except I have a role for the Olympics (Honestly wasn't expecting it I was in a group of women who were in their 30s+ who were talking about being managers and all this other funky work jargon, and I'm fresh out of 6th form and haven't had a job before lol that was my first interview) and haven't heard anything for the paralympics, will try and find a paying job if they don't get back to me.

Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersI had an offer for both. In fact had them ring me up today as I hadn't accepted paralympics. Had to explain that my circumstances had changed and that I was not going to be in the country during them.(Original post by makingamemory)

Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic Volunteers
I have also been offered the role of Spectator Entry Team Member. I had my interview in London, and have now been asked to organise a telephone interview.
Has anyone else had this too? And if so, could they inform me of what to expect from the interview, I really want the job!!!
