Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersDon't you get meal vouchers when you check in at that down-stairs area?(Original post by fizzlebiscuit)
Yes, I am in EVS at ExCel. How are you getting on? It's been a bit up and down for me - lots of having to do security jobs (manning doors all day) because there aren't enough of them, few breaks and no meal vouchers when you work 5.75 hours. (and you are not allowed to buy food at the outlets). But it's great when you are lucky enough to do seating. -
Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersThey were shouting out for people to cover ****s the other day where I am, however they had no issue with me cancelling a shift without finding someone to cover it, so I'm not sure what the current state is!(Original post by chanchan)
yeah EVS games makers have been dwindling -
Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersYes manning doors is part of the EVS role, and you usually have to do this for a few hours a day, but being moved out of an EVS team into the Knight and Sons Security Team for the day is not (with no choice).(Original post by VickyTink)
Manning doors IS an EVS job, not a security job. If you work 5.75 hours, you shouldn't get getting too many breaks anyway, the employment requirement for a break is 6 hours anyway last I heard.
If you don't work over a meal time, then you don't get a voucher...since there won't be any food available for you to claim it against, and if your shift starts/ends during a meal time, they probably won't give you meal vouchers since it's stupid for you to have your food break at the start/end of your shift.
When you are working between 9 and 3 and get no meal voucher, it's quite annoying. We all complained but the wrestling arena leader didn't do anything about it. Some walked out, but the rest of us stayed reluctantly. I know quite a few people who are not planning on going back and finishing the rest of their shifts.
My key issue is that it's not good for morale. It's no way to treat people.Last edited by fizzlebiscuit; 08-08-2012 at 08:55. -
Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersNo, because we were working 5.75 hours and you need to work 6 hours to get a voucher. But we were working between 9 and 3 so most people wanted some food. I was told at EVS check in that we were not allowed to buy food from the outlets. If you don't have spare clothes, there is nothing you can do to get anything to eat. If you are travelling 2 hours each way as well, it's a long time without food! Good for the diet though(Original post by swiftylol)

Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersWe all complained too! But obviously not well enough(Original post by chanchan)
I worked 5.75 hours and all the games makers at the aquatics centre complained and we were all given a meal voucher.
I'm glad they saw sense at the aquatics. It's all a bit 'computer says no' with them sometimes

Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic Volunteers
I'm EVS at ExCel. Its very up and down. Some good days, some great managers, some bad days where I simply get complained to for 10 hrs + and have **** team leaders with no backbone.
On my first day I regretted doing it - "oh god why did I sign up to this. FOR FREE?!!!" but now I'm appreciating my last shifts. There's been some amazing moments and I've seen some great sport. -
Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersThat sounds the same as me! As frustrating as I find it sometimes, there are great moments that make it all worthwhile. I will be sad when it's all over.(Original post by un-jardin-sur-le-nil)

I agree - some of my leaders have had no backbone too - but some have been fab. The best ones are the ones that support the team, encourage feedback, let you use your initiative and stick to the times they say you'll be doing rather than you standing by a door for 3 hours not seeing them and wondering where they are! -
UDAC on Sunday, can't wait! Been told at work that today is my last day working in Stratford, and we're ready for the opening of our new hotel. Even though I haven't started my volunteering shifts it has been an amazing experience in Stratford. For the games makers that were based in the CDM thanks for making me feel happy on my way home from work. You all have made me very excited for starting shifts for the Paralympics.

Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersI can give you a voucher if you want? I'm usually able to get 2 and only get a chance to use one of them anyway.(Original post by fizzlebiscuit)

Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersWhat party? Earl's Court party is on Saturday but not heard of any other...might be venue specific?(Original post by GodAtum)
I'm going to miss all the Games Makers I've worked with. Not sure if I should ask them for their Fcaebook as it seems a bit stalkery lol?
Anyone going to the party on Friday? -
Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersHello there,(Original post by VickyTink)
What party? Earl's Court party is on Saturday but not heard of any other...might be venue specific?
I'm with the Protocol Team at Earl's Court. Is the party just for your department, or for all Earl's Court Games Makers? -
Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic Volunteers
some kind soul has taken to creating the Twitter hash #bigupthevolunteers encouraging LOGOC to recognise the volunteers... possibly you can spread the word around as well..... the article was here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19201329
Let's hope they at least let us into the stadium for part of the closing ceremony..... -
Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersHey (: The party details were on the workforce check in tables from Wednesday I think, looks like it will be everyone, 2.30-4.30 in the conference room, you'll have to check with people if you're on shift, but since the morning game is due to finish at 12 (maybe) and people will only be let in from 4.30 for the evening match, I guess everyones welcome as long as you're not busy?(Original post by Dylancat)
I forgot to add if the Earl's Court party is open to all, where is it and what time?
Many thanks. -
Re: Games Maker 2012 Olympic VolunteersLol she's not even a volunteer (which makes it worse tbh), she's part of Last mile (I think one of the few departments that have both paid and non paid staff doing the exact same work but with different amounts of hours)(Original post by ddthm)
