On the whole, more men study maths than women. Few women do degree courses in maths. At my college, there are only a couple of female maths teachers and only a few girls doing maths.
In Europe, there are slightly more women maths graduates than men, in any given year. This is according to the OECD, so it is rock solid. This surprised me when I find out, but in actual fact it makes sense. One's perception is coloured by living in England, which has the largest male bias of all the major countries (countries producing at least 500 graduates per year). But I feel like I am repeating myself now...
