Re: Toughest IB Subjects CombinationNote: Opinions, not definitive answers. Opinions are subjective(Original post by (You))
That's the same as asking what the hardest A-level combination is. It's just pointless asking these type of questions when there isn't an answer to them.
Basically, I'm interested to find out. Don't be a spoilsport -
Re: Toughest IB Subjects CombinationOuch... those are the subjects are doing...(Original post by Van Grall)
Opinions on the hardest possible IB subject combinations based on the typical 3 at higher, 3 at standard.
Higher:
Maths, Physics, Chemistry
Standard:
English, Latin, Economics
[or replace chemistry with Computer Science]

Re: Toughest IB Subjects CombinationI still think its HL Math, Chem, Physics, Sl English, Economics, Latin/other language.(Original post by TheSmokeMonster)
SL: Subjects you don't enjoy doing.
HL: Subjects you really don't enjoy doing.
Pretty much.
Even the people who ENJOY courses like Hl Math and Physics have a difficult time achieving well in them. -
Re: Toughest IB Subjects CombinationI disagree. The hardest selection would be doing an arts subject, maths, and some intensive reading/essay-based subject at HL, simply because (a) there is no overlap, and (b) each has such an intense workload, but the ways of studying differ greatly.(Original post by a1b2)

Re: Toughest IB Subjects Combination
those are pretty much up there. it does, of course, depend on how naturally good you are with numbers/essay writing, but there are still a LOT of concepts to understand/fiddly numbers to learn with each one and you have to be able to cram it all in
i'd equate it with something like history. -
Re: Toughest IB Subjects CombinationI completely agree, though, whether you're good at the subject plays a large role too.(Original post by TheSmokeMonster)

Re: Toughest IB Subjects Combination
Totally subjective guys. Personally I'd find maths and physics hard because I'm generally not mathematical. I think what the subject in terms of workload entails is a factor too. I know for sure that by doing HL English I'd get less compulsory work than HL Maths.

Re: Toughest IB Subjects Combinationi totally agree. my HLs are math, physics, compsci, econ(Original post by ragnar_jonsson)

everything pretty much overlaps and i only have to shift phases when i study my 2 languages : )
ragnar, how's the weather at brown? -
Re: Toughest IB Subjects Combination
I do agree that the arts is definitely the most difficult group of all on HL combined with Math and A1 Language or History.
HL Physics, HL Chemistry and HL Math is not as difficult as it sounds, for physics is very strongly tied to both chemistry and math and vice versa. Moreover, if you are taking that combination, you must be pretty good at sciences.
I myself am doing HL History, HL Math, HL English A1 and HL Spanish B and it works out fine for me. I also have another language A1 and Chem as my SL's. And I definitely would not say that the combination is overwhelming.
I also thought seriously about taking Theater, but the grading is sooo subjective that it is faaaar to risky. -
Re: Toughest IB Subjects Combination
Economics is not the hardest Humanity. Business for one is harder to get a higher score in. Just look at the average grade for the subjects. And talk to people doing the two subjects.
Also I am quite sure that English HL has got to be harder than Chemistry. Then Art and Drama/Theatre have got to be hard, there is no rigorous marking scheme is there. Not like maths where it's right or wrong. Also you need talent for them, just like you need talent for maths. -

Re: Toughest IB Subjects Combination
SL Arts is not that hard (at least Theater SL isn't). I had had no background or experience whatsoever when I decided to take the course, and I am doing just fine.
I can speak for Theater SL that the IB examiners don't care about your talent/flair/artistry; instead they look for enthusiasm and perseverance and certain competence of reflective learning. We are not graded on how awesome our performance is, but rather on how many learning points we can make out of it (read: bs-ing). And the marking, being inherently and infamously subjective, can't afford to be rigorous either. Much more lenient than A1 Language I must say. -
Re: Toughest IB Subjects Combinationhmm. agreed. Business is definitely harder than economics. it's subjective and requires u to justify rather than just regurgitate what u've learned.(Original post by danny111)

but I think languages are harder to score compared to sciences. but in terms of workload, sciences combo are tougher since u got lab reports to submit almost every week. which is :\ -
Re: Toughest IB Subjects CombinationThat's true! My subject combo (maths, physics, econ HL) was quite intense but my approach to all three HL subjects was fairly similar. On the other hand, if I were doing maths, art and English A1 HL I would most likely explode.(Original post by ragnar_jonsson)

Re: Toughest IB Subjects Combination
It really depends on what you like though..
When you're talking about hardest, why not take the maximum amount of HLs? I think it's 4?
I'm still on a trial
HLs: Physics, Math, Chemistry, Business and Management and Mandarin B
SL: English A
Trial time is up, still thinking about what subject to drop...
Considering Math, Physics or Mandarin
But the thing is Math and Physics have low percentage requirement to get a 7, like around 70% - 80%?
And I'm sorta half native for Mandarin, so Mandarin B is piece of cake for me...
Endless headache..... -
Re: Toughest IB Subjects CombinationIt's still subjective. Maths and physics are similar. I know people that find them easy but die when they're faced with philosophy or english essays. Plus your first one doesn't have english so it isn't a diploma(Original post by gummy_bear10)
Hardest:
Maths, Physics, Chemistry HL
English, German, History SL
Easiest
English, Biology, Geography HL
Maths Studies, Italian ab. initio, art SL
